AWBW Terminology
From AW/FEBW Wiki
Below are some of the basic terms used by AWBW and it's players.
- AAA - Admirable Admin Amarriner. Also the grade of beef Amarriner would be if he was a juicy steak (yes, he gets his own catagory, that's how awesome he is)
- AA - Short for Anti-Air. Also sometimes refered to as AA tank.
- A-Air - Short for Anti-Air. Also sometimes refered to as AA tank.
- APC - Stands for armored personnel carrier.
- Art - Short for artillery.
- AWBW Tournaments - Official games organized by the site staff known as Tournament Moderators. These games differ from regular games in that they are created with certain parameters with the results of the games being recorded onto the official user records.
- Blandie - Otherwise known as "bland," a CO with an average D2D ability of 100% attack and and defense. These COs rely on their powers to determine their uniqueness. Andy, Olaf, and Adder are regarded as bland COs, and to a certain extent, Eagle and Drake on land-only maps. These COs are usually overshadowed by COs with more powerful D2D abilities, such as Kindle and Sensei.
- Blocking - Covering an Enemy production facility to keep it from building anything, or blocking a neutral property to delay the enemy capturing it.
- B Boat - Short for Black Boat.
- B Copter - Short for Battle Copter.
- B Ship - Short for battleship. Also called BS.
- Broken - This describes a CO who can use one unbeatable strategy or approach to win almost every single game on a particular map when played optimally.
- Broken Trio - This usually refers to the commanding officers Colin, Grit, and Hachi who are widely considered broken on most maps.
- Black Tiles - Also known as 0MP Tiles or Teleport Tiles, these pure black squares are created by exploiting a glitch in the map uploading system. They can't be stopped on, but take 0 MP to cross which means you can teleport along a sting of black tiles any length on. (This works for land, sea, air and piperunner alike.)
- CGH - Colin, Grit, Hachi. Also referred to as HCG, or CHG, or HGC, or GCH, or GHC.
- Chokepoint - Narrow Strip of land that favors Indirect units due to it's easy clogging.
- COB - Short for CO Bar
- COP - Short for CO Power.
- D2D - Short for Day-to-Day. Term for a CO's strength outside of CO Powers. Some COs are distinguishable as unique or even overpowered merely by their D2D Ability, such as Koal. A list of D2D Abilities can be seen here.
- Double COP - If a CO's SCOP portion is longer than the COP portion, the CO will be able to use 2 COPs in a row upon filling the bar. This is usually a waste of time, except for Colin players.
- FOW - Fog of War.
- FTA - First Turn Advantage. This indicates that the first player (Usually Orange Star) has an advantage over the others by reaching properties faster, blocking the enemy from their properties, etc. There are ways to counter this, such as giving the second player an extra property or infantry. Since "Fifth" also begins with "F", this can also mean Fifth Turn Advantage.
- Ghost Unit - A unit belonging to an army not present on a map (Such as a Green Earth infantry on a map where only Orange Star and Blue Moon are playable). Once the game begins, these units will disappear, allowing units to travel on the space they were originally on, but prevents joining units and building units on the space where the Ghost Unit was. Good tactic if you want to limit a Port or Airport to just Repair and Resupply, and not building units. This is only available on AWBW, and not on the original game.
- Immigration - A game where, players start with 1 infantry and 1 transport copter or 1 infantry and can choose where their base is. These games usually have a capture amount to win.
- Infantry Flood - Tactic in which the player builds many Infantry. A disputable tactic which is arguably overpowered by many players. Maps with many bases tend to provoke this strategy. Also a result of Sensei's COP, which produces a large amount of infantry on his own cities.
- Leapfrogging - Describes efficient use of transport units in maneuvering infantry and/or mechs. When leapfrogging two infantry, have the transport pick up the trailing infantry and drop it off "in front of" the leading infantry so that, on the next turn, the leading infantry can enter the transport using the same procedure. Helps to move two infantry to a certain location within a moderate period of time. Also known as APC Hopping APC Hop.
- Meatshielding - Using expendable units (Primarily Infantry) to block the enemy from attacking their more valuable units (Such as Indirects).
- Mech Flood - Tactic in which the player uses repeated building of Mech units hoping to overwhelm the enemy in numbers. Countered well by Infantry and Indirect units. Also known as Mech Rushing.
- Neo - Short for Neotank. Neo is also "One" spelt backwards. Neo can also mean the guy in the Matrix movies who saves the world by losing in a very lame way in the end of the third movie.
- "No Chance" - Term used to describe a game in which you have "no chance" of winning right from the start, even if you are the more skilled opponent. Usually results from the opponent choosing a broken or overpowered CO and/or significant FTA/STA.
- Nyvelionized - A map that has been re-constructed in Nyvelion's own style, which means totally random terrain. They look amazingly cool, as does Nyvelion herself.
- Joke Map - A map made intentionally bad or unplayable as a joke. Examples of joke mappers are IndirectDragon(Alt), Nyvelion(Alt) and Snack
- OHKO (One Hit KO) - A match between two units where one unit will deal 100% or more damage to the other unit, thus killing the unit off insantly. With luck, Flak, Jugger, and Nell can do this as well with less than 100%.
- Playtest - A game on a newly created Map to make sure the map is balanced.
- Property Clump - A Large group of properties together. Large property clumps are frowned upon by map makers.
- Recon Rush - The use of a Recon in the early game to cripple enemy capturing Infantry and to distract the enemy, however this is an easily beatable tactic by building a tank. [Usually used by Sturm players]
- Resign - When a player chooses to resign, it does not mean he/she has to sign something again, it means he/she has voluntarily lost the game, causing his/her units to dissappear and property to go neutral.
- SCOP - Short for Super CO Power.
- Self Voter - A person who rates their map a 10 the minute it is made. Frowned upon by people, some people giving the map a 1 regardless of how good it is just to counteract this.
- Spam - To build a bountiful of one or two units and skip on all others. Otherwise known as "flooding," the most common of these are infantry, mech, and artillery spam. Spamming Stealth fighters is also considered cheap when only one siade has an airport.
- Sprite Map - A map not meant to be played on, but rather to resemble a picture on the mini map view. Examples of sprite artists include Evil Lord Canas and PitLine810
- STA - Second Turn Advantage. This means the advantage given to the Second Player to counter FTA gives them too much of an advantage. On 6+ player maps this can also mean Sixth Turn Advantage. On 7+ player maps this can also mean Seventh Turn Advantage as well.
- Stalemate - A situation in a game where no army is making much progress, be it financially or gaining ground.
- Surrounding - Surrounding an enemy unit in 4 directions with expendable units and picking it off with Indirect units while it cannot move. Also referred to as trapping.
- Terrain Variety - The use of terrain to keep the map from looking bland (Such as a map that's 80% Plains or Sea).
- T Copter - Short for Transport Copter.
- Tournament Moderators - People who create and moderate AWBW tournaments: Dullahan, Frostylightand Melon
- Zone Control - Controlling an area of the map through indirect units or other means.
