Lost and Found (09/19/2021 10:35pm):
Welcome to the mapmaking scene! This map is already a great start, but here are some pointers: - Income is really low for a map with three factories and an airport - 11k per player (assuming they capture everything on their side of the board) is very little and will cause an overabundance of infantry compared to tanks, copters and other vehicles. This can make gameplay rather slow and you may want more cities per side - about 18k is typically a good lower bound (as this allows for tank + battle copter + 2 infantry builds in one turn, which aids unit variety). - As is, it's fairly easy for a defensively minded player to hold all their properties by staying back as far as possible and aiming artillery at them - this tends to promote stally gameplay and makes it very hard to push into opposing territory or gain an income advantage to push with. Some more cities in the more contested center area or near the lone factory side could work wonders in that regard, and help with the previous point too. - Turn order is determined by the maps' placed countries' placing in the list within the map editor, with Orange Star going first and White Nova going last. This means Purple Lightning goes after Red Fire. With the goal of a predeployed infantry being to put the second player "half a turn ahead", player 1 is now 1.5 instead of 0.5 turns ahead. (It's also usually customary to put the infantry onto the 2 factory side, as that's generally the slightly more powerful one - making up for player 1 gaining HQ income first.) - The idea behind HQ placements is usually that capturing one allows players to end clearly winning games faster. While not necessarily a major drawback, the HQs on this map are really, really safe so a losing player could stall the game out for quite a while. This is a pretty good map for a first start, and I'm glad to see your first attempt already shaping up this nicely! Also, I love the tower placements and general terraining. |
