Oh wow this map is so great

Why are recons banned on this in global league std?
Azarel (12/27/2022 06:32pm | Edited: 12/27/2022 06:34pm):
I kind of like this map, but when I was going to make a Recon I was really surprised as it turned out to be banned... (My fault for not checking unit bans, but I would've never thought that basic units would ever be banned)

It also felt like me and my opponent were doing an exact mirror of each other for many days during the capture phase. It wasn't until day 8 when I decided to interrupt my own city cap to fight over the comtower.

I eventually had both comtowers and I did win the game (max mirror ~1k ELO) , but I'm not sure if it's actually viable or if it only worked because of mistakes.

I was down 2k income for a few days and couldn't capture the last property near the comtower so I would've been down at least 1k income for the rest of the game if I didn't snatch some cities away later in the match.

And if fighting over comtowers isn't viable in higher ELO then I think the capture phase or "build order" is basically 0 variation for 10 days, which is kind of lame

Why ban the Recon? It would create a more interesting dynamic to have it.

perfect map 1/10
Can't feel what area we are fighting for. It is just exchanging war losses.
The forest completely blocked the troops. I just know why the German Blitzkrieg failed

I didnt even notice until I actually read the comments here, but why are recons banned?
Though actually, it is not much of a question, if one looks at the fact the 3rd base needs 3 turns to even begin capture, which
can give a recon enough time to get there and interrupt it. So here is my real question: Why design the map knowingly with
that flaw like that in the first place?
Dont get me wrong, I like the map, but due time it takes to capture that base it is very hard to get much in terms of proper
defenses up on that side anyway, so you are going to get overrun and base trade with your opponent regardless what you
do.
Its just bothering me that placing the base 1 tile closer would solve both issues, the potential of recon rush and the fact you
are essentially just basetrading by default anyway with no real attempt for counterplay possible. It would still happen since
that side has to deal with an additional airport of course, but hey, at least you can try and defend it in that situation.

Hey if recons are banned on this map, Sturm should maybe be placed lower in the tiers on this map. It basically his thing to
have 8 movement squares for recons. I thought I would bring this up.
MontySigurdson (01/21/2023 01:17pm | Edited: 01/21/2023 01:28pm):
Sturm would still be broken though because the forests do not restrict the movement of his tanks, allowing him to easily park them on certain key cities. For example, as Blue Moon he can move a tank onto the city at (18/06) within 2 turns.
So he can take control of most of the map before anyone else. Therefore I don't think any Tier 1 CO could stand up to him.
CommanderFox (01/28/2023 10:18pm | Edited: 01/28/2023 10:19pm):
I bet Javier could or Sasha

Free the Recon!
Stinkus (03/09/2023 09:55am):
Recons should be on this map, just move Sturm to T0 where he usually is if it's that
much of an issue. They are conditionally useful any other time (many such cases
in STD), really only strong with Lash's COP otherwise
BenCarver (04/15/2023 10:20pm):
Very enjoyable map
