VIH (05/06/2006 12:03pm | Edited: 05/10/2006 09:37am):
no FTA, good. especially with YC extra city
VIH (05/10/2006 09:43am):
ban piperunner?
2i (05/10/2006 10:30am):
Nope, else the fun would be screwed.
Nahbien (05/10/2006 07:32pm):
6 bases per side? o.O
jhuni (05/10/2006 07:55pm):
I greatly hate artilery maps like these.
Shadow Star (06/27/2006 07:11pm):
why does BM get an infantry but GE gets a mech?
swap that please.
2i (06/28/2006 10:46am):
Mechs are better than Infantries
Silvera (08/05/2006 03:34pm):
Not for capturing, because Infantry move further.
GaoGaoStegosaurus (08/05/2006 03:51pm):
The FTA compesnation is retarded as OS gets screwed. Nahbien, this is a clear instance of
LTA. =\
NecroMage (08/08/2006 01:10am | Edited: 08/08/2006 01:18am):
On a map like this, does FTA really even matter? There's no way OS's 3 movement advantage
could be SO HUGE that BM gets a 2 step advantage (leading to a city a turn faster than OS)
GE gets a mech (which leads to the same city just as quickly as well as giving
the infantry anti-vehicle charges) and YC gets BMs infantry and an extra city.

Also, look at the position. Yellow Comet starts out clearly with LTA, and if I was them I
would run my free infantry around the pipe to the economically crippled orange star and
fire off some long range weapons before they even get started with my extra 1000 a turn, then
take their stuff. That's half the map easily controlled in order to counteract OS's FTA.

And if OS uses it's oh-so-precious FTA to build a ranged weapon before YC, then it has no
free infantry to run around and capture anything and is due to lose due to economic collapse.

If you want to counter FTA, here's what you do: realise that on this map, there is none.
If OS builds an infantry, it has no hope of racing anywhere important before other people
can shoot it with their troops. If they save for artillery fire, then everyone else gets
infantry running around and gain an economic upper hand, as well as out of range bases.

Smaller maps, yes, FTA is big, but in maps that avoid direct conflict early on like this
one don't usually have it unless there's a race to some pivotal central location where FTA
can easily determine control. Which, on a larger map, still shouldn't lead to FTA
determining the winner.

So would everyone who sees a symetrical map and immediately demands changes regarding FTA
just because BM doesn't get a free troop please take a second to make sure the FTA actually
damages the map more than the countermeasure?

Also, Zeeky Boogey Doog.
2i (08/29/2006 01:18am):
Thanks for the constructive critics about FTA.
jhuni (10/20/2006 04:38pm):
The factual existence of FTA on symmetrical maps has been proved on several acounts.
In the past I have said "Perhaps one of the most adducing arguments of the existance of
FTA is the slated incomes. BM can simply end his turn, and then on his next turn have
whatever claimed advantage GE had plus 1 turns income."
