ASoc Starborn (10/29/2022 03:25pm):
The Illusion of Fear

Intention:
Create a map that offers dynamic and engaging gameplay from
day 1 through the game's end, even as players are eliminated.

Employed Strategies:
Split Fronts:
Each player has 2 islands and 6 total fronts, with each island having between 2 and 4 fronts.
Each front is with a different player, so that no player shares 2 fronts with any other player.
This helps to keep things interesting even if (when) players idle out.

Labs - not HQs:
Having labs instead of HQs helps keep the game dynamic in multiple ways.
First, it allows a player to lose one front but continue playing.
Second, it prevents massive power differentials from being created upon HQ caps.
Third, it encourages the trading of labs between players -
offering unique diplomatic interactions I've not yet seen in AWBW!
Fourth, each lab you secure makes you more difficult to eliminate.

Low Base Count:
Low base count helps to prevent abuse of certain COs and strategies, and also
helps to prevent snowballing of unit production as players are eliminated.

Water Features:
The map is designed with a contiguous body of water connecting its entirety,
with each front having shoals between players. Players are able to use black
boats and landers for both offense and defense allowing for interesting
amphibious tactics.

Pre-Deployed Units:
Each player has 2 islands, with each island having a garrison consisting of:
- 2 Black boats: Can be used to great effect on this map, I wanted all players to have a few.
Makes for a very interesting and varied land grab.
- 1 Submarine: The submarine is shoal locked, and is intended to act as a recon unit for FOW.
- 1 Mech, 1 Artillery: These garrisons are intended to bring some lesser used units into the fray
while also acting to slow the game down a bit and deter rushes. Mechs come with the interesting
decision of which property to secure first.

Thank you for taking the time to be a human being who reads, and I hope you enjoy the map!

Some bases get locked by artillery.
Not a good idea.
