I wanted to create a map that was small enough so that games could be played relatively
quickly, but on which interesting and fulfilling games could still be had.

I've tried to take a lot of the terrain and path dynamics that i've come across in
memorable games which i've had, and on maps which i've enjoyed, and squeeze them into
quite a small space. So hopefully you should be able to have a good tactical game.

I've also tried to be as efficient with space as I can be, almost every tile has some
tactical purpose (apart from the corners), and I have managed to fit a decent amount of
properties, so that the map should feel and play a little bigger than it actually is. I've
also tried to keep the bulk of marginal properties out of the way so kindle isn't too
overpowering, and I'd like to think there is a little something here for all the terrain
specialists. And many of the other CO's too.

Hope you enjoy.

I wish there as an airport. :\ Wouldn't really break the game cause you'd only be able to
build B-Copters with the kind of cash you're gonna get.
SmackCakes (05/06/2006 09:29am):
Yeah I would have been interested in having b.copters involved too, but to be honest the
map is just way too small to handle air units, they would be massively overpowered. I had
a look at just adding a predeployed b.copter each but the FTA would have just been too harsh.
Nahbien (05/06/2006 09:54am):
Well there's also the fact that 1 AA gun can practically cover more than half the map, so
B-copters wouldn't be that wise of an investment anyways.
SmackCakes (05/06/2006 01:41pm):
i was just thinking that one b.copter can pretty much knock out a tank anywhere on the
map, where as and AA would have to deal with terrain and unit occlusion. although missile
is always an option.
sirfuxalot (07/31/2006 11:48am):
Good roads, good terrain, good funds, good base numbers. Fair FTA correction, too. It's a
bit chokey, but its still a 9/10.
jhuni (12/03/2006 04:03pm | Edited: 12/03/2006 04:53pm):
Theres clearly a missconception about the balance of this map. A brief observation of the
map analysis will provide corroborates this.

A 2 base 0 citie 1 HQ symmetric FTA is perfectly balanced, and the peak city addition is
essentially one city. OS has a 1,000 income advantage, and this is conspicuously
augmented by the size of this map. It's far too small, and it also has chokepoint issues, and
a lack of wide openness. My overall appraisal is 7/10, sorry.
SmackCakes (01/12/2007 07:43pm):
Map analysis means nothing , even on the best maps OS normally has around 70% of the wins.
because better players and game creators are more likely to choose OS when they can, and
less likely to get booted etc.

and how does this map have choke point “issues”? Squash island has “issues” granted this
map has some tight areas, but even at its narrowest point there are still 4 ways across,
and you do realise land units can move on shoals right? I don’t accept “chokey” as a
criticism because there is nothing wrong with chokes, they make for good games (unless the
whole map is like one long bridge)

I agree about the funding though so I reduced the number of cities each country starts the
game with.
sulla (11/15/2008 06:00am):
I don't dislike you sulla, we have talked and you seemed okay, and I
quite liked your topic about generals. I am almost looking forward to
having you back so the discussion can continue.

That being said you do cause problems. Sometimes you act like this is
your site, and that you can get away with whatever you like. You have
done things here which would not be tolerated on any other site, and
then you tell people to "just get over it" which is just pure
arrogance and it makes people even more upset.

And lets get one thing straight, I don't need a reason to ban you.
This isn't a courtroom where I have to find DNA evidence to convict
you or else you walk. There are no clever loopholes that mean "I know
what you did" but can't touch you for it.

I have a whole forum full of people who you have upset. I have seen
you first hand flaming and derailing topics with your drama and
generally being disruptive. And don't think the topics where you have
misbehaved were deleted, I still have them all on the staff board
including your Hitler topic.

If you want to e-mail amarriner then be my guest, but it won't do you
any good. I've already spoken to him about you. And in the unlikely
event that I have to speak to him again. I have more than enough to
justify banning you, and plenty of people who will concur that you
deliberately cause trouble.

Threatening to tell on me to amarriner actually illustrates your
problem sulla. You expect everyone to yield to your will, and if they
don't then you threaten and bully them. Well your bullying is not
going to work on me sulla. You can't go over my head, you can't go
around me, you can't push me around, and you can't escape my reach on
this site. If you want to be part of this community then you are going
to have to yield to my will. And my will is that you are extra polite
and respectful to other members of this community. That is the only
way you are getting back on the forum. If you can't handle that then
you don't have to come here. and I can't fix if so you aren't able.

Also don't think I banned you just to be an ass to you. There are
quite a few people on this site who just aren't ready to forgive you.
And you arrogantly telling them to get over it isn't making it any
easier. As long as that is the case then the fighting will continue,
and that is unacceptable.

So I have devised this punishment for you, which isn't particularly
harsh (it just means you can't post on the forum for a few days) I
haven't deleted your accounts, or your maps, and I haven't stopped you
from visiting the game site either, which I could have done if I
really wanted to be an ass.

I was hoping that aside from teaching you a bit of humility, this
might actually satisfy the others that you have at last received some
sort of punishment and they might be more willing to let the past go,
and get off your back. This suites me because it means an end to the
fighting, and I think it also suites you because it gives you a new start.

If you are willing to come back and say you are sorry, and that you
have learned your lesson. I'm sure the others will be willing to give
you another chance. And so long as you are polite and keep your nose
clean, I will make sure you are left alone. Though this really will be
your last chance.

I don't want any more drama. That means no more posting about other
users. No more posting about the map committee conspiring against you.
And I don't want to hear a breath about how you were banned for "no
reason". This is not because I don't want to see me or the map
committee criticized. It is because when you post this stuff about
your maps and about things being unfair it baits other people into
arguing with you and then flames start. I don't want to see any more
argument baiting there is no need for it.

As I said before, if you want to come back to the forum it is your
choice, but things have to change.
