I assume this is supposed to be north versus south?
Played a wonky version where the teams were
diagonally aligned, and did not play all that fairly (red
and blue had double forward bases to easily apply
early pressure).

Yep. As mentioned in the original comment the teams are supposed to be ABBA (OS, BM, GE, YC) which results in a North V South game. Definitely would be weird in other formats.
