I tried to approximate the movement and utility of each chess piece into a set of units. Each player gets 12 units total which represent 2 pawns and 2 back-row pieces. The stuff on the periphery is there to ensure that losing the King/Queen player results in the conclusion of the match. Alternitively, a game that goes on for too long might see a King player escaping the chess board and HQ capping. Naturally, going for the King allows you to avoid this scenario. Two command towers will be embedded into the center of the border pipe to further increase the utility of King pieces. |

Ah excellent. A chess variant were I can move my king and queen to personally beat up the opponent. |

So after breaking through the east it turns out you can move the cruisers onto the water and un baseblock the other guy. Great premise |

Changed Map. 4D Chess is no more. It is now ONE PIECE. Intended for free-for-all. (Though teams could work depending on win-rates) FTA balancing is based on starting location difficulty. OS has the most difficult ramp-up by starting with the smallest islands and a minor funding/production deficit intrinsic to East Blue. BM has a balanced ramp-up though the odd shape of Twin Snakes island and Kano Country is somewhat linear and "chokey" by nature. Yellow has the easiest ramp up with Bliss Kingdom's massive continent providing both cover and many plenty of valuable properties. WN has the most lucrative region, however some of its islands may require extra skill and foresight to defend and hold onto. There is also BN as a wildcard army which patrols the REDLINE and guards reverse mountain. Their formidability starts incredibly low, however if you ignore them for too long they may become a serious threat due to their passive/uncontested income growth and vision advantage. You may not see them, but they'll see you. |

Future patch notes: Noire needs a starting income buff to prevent early-game bullying. Reverse-Moutain should be a bit easier to traverse and defend. Everyone else seems more or less viable with Blue currently being in the top spot with draws being the most common outcome on this map. (Draws tend to indicate balance) Probably going to add some central factories to help victories become more decisive. |
