It's the Hawaiian Islands - Doubled , mirrored, and sandwiched on top of each other.

The "ruined" corner islands were originally based on Midway Atoll, although their placement is more in line the the Great
Pacific Garbage Patch. Basically they represent a bombed out abandoned area that isn't useful or easily defended unless you
"clean it up" and invest in it.
