Despite being named Ultra Shoal this map only has 16 shoal tiles therefor it is a scam. Where are the shoals in ultra shoal??? |
slyfox (07/18/2024 01:21pm):
Is this more shoals than average? |

in the lower-left-corner, p2 has a bridge where p1 has a shoal... perhaps this bridge is the true Ultra Shoal |

Honestly after about 30 games on this map, its pure garbage. The idea of locking the airport behind the pipes is cool, but even with three bases its too hard to get out of the base positions and onto the map. Looking at it bottom up, the bottom left base ( which is also your starting base ) literrally can only push out infantry the entire time. You have to use the middle and low right bases for mech and even then you need two turns to even get into position to defend anything. Just dumb. |

I find this map very interesting to play personally, I've only played this map once but the match is extremely dynamic, it is a bit hard to front switch admittedly but not impossible and it make you actively think about where you want to push first. Also I love seeing map were attacking and defending are both viable, it make good artillery placement more rewarding. |
Dumuzid (12/16/2024 03:09pm):
Infantry + Artillery stall map with linear progression. Like most AWBW maps, the goal is to push out to both sides while fending away enemies along an expected line. Unlike most maps, however, the formation of your line is much more likely to occur on a sharp, scalene triangle due to base + shoal/ river placement. There is a lot to like here. Airport is locked away behind a pipe. This will not necessarily give away your build, because artillery is an absolute must on this map. I also like that the middle is deliberately left underpowered, because of the positional advantage it would give you in breaking your opponent's line. That all being said, I am giving this map a 1/10 because it is completely imbalanced against vehicle players. The rivers and shoals are extremely frustrating to deal with, especially on the left side, and utterly confound transport play. This would not be such a problem if establishing your line was easier, but again, because of the base + river placements, transports are an absolute necessity on this map. You really need to rush out ahead on the left, and long on the right every single time. In other words, this map is totally unsuitable for anybody that actually wants to play the game on their own, instead of looking up a guide for this map. |

I'm all for a single hindered factory, but two is excessive and THREE is lunacy. Another slog in the fog bog. |

This is an absolutely fucking INSANE Sturm map BTW |
