Any advice on how to do a proper/better FTA counter is appreciated. The normal 1 blue inf is too much of an advantage to blue. Pre-owned red city is too much of an advantage for red. Forcing a base skip with an 8/9 hp inf on base negates the additional inf to blue entirely and leads to red advantage (with no pre-owned cities). I refuse to use HQs due to the defense bonuses and funds. I wish I could make this map more suited for competitive play, as the idea of a small 1 base map intrigued me to make a map that focused on infantry, mechs, and recons while also managing funds for tanks/artillery, and potentially MD tanks. While the restrictive map size and unit count is punishing, I want this map to both teach new players and challenge grandmasters in army management. Edit: 1 inf v 2 inf at full hp was too much of an advantage to p2. While I believed giving an income lead to p1 would fix that with 1 property each for a full 2k advantage to p1 would suffice, I realized it hinders capture phase and forces an unfair advantage to p2. Instead my next idea is to give blue a 6 hp infantry on the mountain rather than an 8 hp infantry on the base. This slows capture phase for p2 significantly due to repair costs while still giving them a unit lead. The choice p2 has when using said infantry is still significant to capture phase but now in a healthier/balanced way that does not favor rushing into p1. |

I don't think a map of this size will ever be competitively viable, sorry - it basically has only one front (no matter what the terrain is) and you'll get a center brawl every game. You could maybe get a map of this size to C rank (casual viable) if you really tried but that's about it. The correct FTA counter for Standard is that P2 is supposed to be half a turn ahead (or, differently speaking, 1 turn ahead on their strongest front which also isn't possible when there's only 1 front). So setting up a correct FTA counter is rather difficult if there's only one base (you need at least 2 bases so you can put a predeployed Infantry for P2 on the stronger one). |
