I think P2 and P3 (or P1 and P4) should be swapped, shouldn't they? On OS/YC, the richer player goes first whereas on BM/GE, the richer player goes second. EDIT: Re-Newing the map. Thinking about it again, swapping OS and YC might be better for balance, though I'm not entirely sure. Right now, OS is the player with more money on team 1 and they go first as well which might cause FTA. I'll leave this one up for re-review though |

My read on this map is that this is a HQ/base race map, probably the NW/SE corners get taken. These bases have an exposed airport and are closer to the opponent's center bases then the other corner, and its basically impossible to stop a reinforce from the opposing corner base making it easy to get 3b1a of attackers against a 1b (airport locked) situation. I think this is problematic for a couple of reasons. (1) I think there is a misconception that as long as there is ABBA turn order there doesn't need to have FTA counter infantry. But I don't think this is the case. In this map OS fights most with GE and BM fights most with YC, but the two OS/GE fronts of mirrors of each other not of the BM/YC fronts so this means OS has a jump on both of its mirrored fronts and BM had a jump on both of its fronts, but these fronts are not guaranteed to have equal value. In particular if the NW/SE race thesis is correct then there is FTA since OS moves first on each side, alternatively its possible that the (07,04) and (12,15) contested comm towers are the most important in which case there is STA. Either way I believe GE and YC should get an infantry to make mirrored fronts balanced. (2) Assuming a HQ race, the mixing of HQs makes a balanced end-game very messy. After the corners are traded presumably both BM and YC have resigned (to avoid getting HQ capped) and the OS army is mostly in the SE and GE army is mostly in the NW, but then they have to race (unconstested basically) across the map to the NE/SW corners to attack/defend the HQs. I'd recommend that each base have capitals of their own color. (3) I haven't played that much 2v2 but I'm generally against HQs (especially HQ races) in general. I think it makes COs like Sami/Andy (and theoretically Hawke) stronger since they just have to threaten the HQ to force a resign and don't have to actually pop their power. Which means they can keep hold onto their SCOP for longer. But also you end up with a 1v1 game after two HQ were traded, which seems to defeat the purpose somewhat of starting as a 2v2. I'd recommend instead of HQs, having two labs per side one on the corner one in the center. One set of them can start out neutral if it's desired. Alternatively there can be an exposed and safe lab in each corner so that if one team is way ahead in the base race then they eliminate the opponent, but if they are just a little ahead it trades. |
