I think this doesn't work quite as well as the original. For example, the outer Com Towers are a bit more secure because sneaking an Infantry through the forests is quite a bit harder since there are less forests to use. The smaller frontline also means that you can keep units near the middle to comfortably answer a lot of different threats.
