1979 IC The Anarchy Begins Magritta of Marienburg is elected Empress by those Elector Counts not otherwise claiming the Imperial crown for themselves. The Grand Theogonist of Sigmar refuses to acknowledge the appointment, and the system of electoral monarchy effectively breaks down for several centuries. The Grand Provinces become increasingly divided and fracture into feuding factions. As individual Imperial cities turn toward their own governments and interests, and civil war between rival claimants to the Imperial throne erupts, the mercantile and artisan burgomeisters gain power across Imperial society at the expense of the nobility. This period becomes known as “The Anarchy.” In Ostermark, the town of Mordheim is destroyed by a warpstone comet. Warbands roam the ruined town looking for loot. The Everchosen Asavar Kul rallies the largest Chaos host ever seen. The Vampire Wars begin. Mechanically, there are a lot of “minigames.” The lower-left corner contains the "Electoral College", currently held by the Church of Sigmar. Every Elector Count can scheme there to take power, even the dark Vampire Counts. Wissenland / Nuln has a monopoly on war technology. They can gift their knowledge to other Elector Counts, or the Counts may attempt to force Wissenland to give up its supremacy. Middenheim is in the midst of a civil war. Carroburg, as the wealthier city, is in direct conflict with the Middenheim nobility. They can fight openly over the land or scheme for control over the province. Reikland, Talabecland, Wissenland, Averland, West Middenland, and Westerland are fighting for control over the Reik, one of the most profitable rivers. The Clergy of Sigmar seeks to control the Altdorf nobility. Nordland, Ostland, and Westerland fight for the coastal trade routes. Stirland and Averland were unhappy when the Emperor granted the Halflings the Moot. perhaps they want it back? All this occurs while a massive invasion force moves south: the Everchosen has come! Balance is based on lore accuracy: | Faction | Fight (1–3) | Finances (1–3) | City Count | Unit Count | | ------------- | ----------- | -------------- | ---------- | ---------- | | Reikland | 3 | 3 | 9 | 4 | | Wissenland | 3 | 3 | 9 | 2 | | Averland | 2 | 3 | 9 | 2 | | Westerland | 2 | 3 | 9 | 4 | | Talabecland | 2 | 2 | 8 | 4 | | Stirland | 2 | 2 | 8 | 3 | | Ostermark | 2 | 2 | 8 | 4 | | Nordland | 2 | 2 | 8 | 2 | | Hochland | 2 | 2 | 8 | 3 | | Middenland W. | 2 | 2 | 8 | 3 | | Middenland E. | 2 | 2 | 8 | 3 | | The Moot | 1 | 2 | 8 | 2 | | Ostland | 1 | 1 | 7 | 4 | | Sylvania | 3 | 1 | 7 | 4 | |
