This is a map of Japan I made on my copy of AWDS. I wanted to make a balanced, accurate
map of Japan that could use all units. The HQs are really close together but I wanted to
make this map a Tokyo vs Osaka battle, which ends up making a quicker, more tense battle.
FiniteStrike (10/01/2006 06:33pm):
Hrmmm. Well, Red Star seems to have a bit of an advantage with the northern island, mostly
in regards to the com tower and extra naval yard. However perhaps it's balanced by the
fact that it takes longer for units deployed there to reach the front line. In such a
circumstance, I can see the Com Tower balancing that out.

Regardless it seems like a nice little map to have a skirmish on. Two thumbs up!

Teegarden, This map is quite unbalanced.
As you can see in our game, OS can rush in to the 3 middle factories with a tcopter or two.
And while you are busy extermianting my forces there, OS will be able to secure the
northest part of the map without any problem. From there OS will have slightly more funds,
an extra com tower and some control in the middle. I suggest to change the mountains
around BM HQ to used missile silos. Or to change the starting positions.
Teegarden (10/26/2006 07:43am):
Changed the neutral base on (9,13) to a BM base to counter FTA. Thank you yak!

When I test maps I usually let the computer play it on Versus mode, Andy vs Andy with
powers off. The computer would try to secure Hakkaidou in the north before attempting to
take over Osaka (BM HQ), and Osaka would be busy capturing KyuuShuu in the south. But
you are correct, Tokyo can start to overtake KyuuShuu and BM is helpless against it and will
eventually be overrun.

However, once Osaka captures KyuuShuu then BM will have three bases to conquer the
middle opposed to OS's one base next to HQ. There are bases in Hakkaido but without
proper planning OS will be overrun in Tokyo before OS can get the funds to defend. To give
OS time to get to Hakkaido I only gave BM one base starting off, however that leaves OS
with an auto win just like you demonstrated in our game. I hope that by giving OS an extra
base in the middle it brings balance and I will keep your suggestiongs in mind. I will not use
silos however as I want to keep this map as close to real Japan as possible without
destroying the balance. (I am not opposed to putting a silo where Okinawa is placed with a
blue infantry there, however.)
RedKlonoa (10/26/2006 08:25am):
Maybe move the airport on the tiny island somewhere else?
jenkins (10/26/2006 09:47am):
You've put BM in Hiroshima, not Osaka. Osaka is to the upper right of Shikoku.
felix45 (10/26/2006 07:55pm):
Huge second turn advantage. each team should have an equal opportunity at getting the
same ammount of bases. As is BM can easily outnumber OS with infantry spam because of
the extra base.

I would give this map a 0 but It isnt possible, so instead I gave it a 1/10.
sirfuxalot (10/27/2006 01:27pm):
jhuni is going to be pissed. You ddn't put in hardly any reefs.
jhuni (10/27/2006 02:35pm):
I'm pissed.
Teegarden (10/28/2006 08:51am):
I got the opportunity to test out the extra base on my own and it gives a huge STA after all.
The large problem before was OS taking a TCopter and taking the middle bases before BM
can do anything about it, and now BM can just inf flood and tank flood. I think I will make the
airport either where Okinawa is now or I will move it up north. I would maybe replace it with
a com tower or city. If I make it a base I'm afraid of an untouchable rocket staying there.

And the reefs thing. It's not a FoW map and I want to balance it completely before I make
it "pretty". I was going to throw in a mountain or two also to make it look like more uninhabited
islands. I will most likely also shift Japan over two spaces so it appears in the middle of the
map.

Thank you for all of your inputs. I believe with all of your help this will be at least a 9/10 map.
