Lol.
Can you say "TV"? How about "playability"?
The way you've got this set up, it's an infantry/mech battle, and the first person to take the
base in the center (which'll be OS, thanks to FTA and placement) will win.
Also, the port can only build transport units.
And you overterrained with forests.

oh, i'm sure you're right. this is a map i like to call "messing around with the terrain
editor." i wouldnt have published it except i showed it to a friend and he said that blue
moon would always win and i wanted to prove that he was wrong. so... there you have it. i
started a private game called "orange star will win" to prove my point.

still, i dont think it's as clear-cut as you say. i guess it would be hard to say if you
havent actually played it. in any case, i was going to switch orange star and blue moon
before i published my first little test map, but i felt compelled to test it as-is. who
knows. sometimes a simple, apparently one-sided setup can force unique and intriguing
strategies to emerge.

also, since i dont see a glossary of the site lying around and i'm new here, i dont know
what you mean by "TV," but i'm guessing it's not a compliment. and i dont know what you
mean about the port only building transport units, but i'll check into that.

and did you have to give it a 1? i mean come on....
Morgenstern (08/17/2007 09:11am):
The only "intriguing strategies" I can see is packing your base/city area with indirects while
you send infantry and mechs to the bases and missiles on the other sides of the river.
If a port is blocked by shoals, as yours is, only transport ships (Landers and Black Boats)
can move away, since most ships can't move on shoals.
TV means terrain variety, which basically says that you've overterrained with only one or
two types.

I did space-counting; OS can get an infantry to the base by Day 9, Blue Moon by Day 10. So,
there *is* a chance that Blue Moon can get it, just not a good one.

i mean, i still think you're right that the balance is tilted heavily in orange star's
favor. they not only have a better shot at the center base but a much better shot at the
base near their hq if something goes wrong. blue moon, though, might be able to pull of a
victory as much as a quarter of the time through clever use of rockets and infantry.
having the missiles there means it's not as simple as a race to the center base, and i
know it's not the map of the century.. only a test map. and it's one i'm glad i've made,
since i'd forgotten that bit about shoals (thanks for pointing that out).

so, thanks for your criticism, but i think i'll have a fun time playing it anyway before i
make the changes i know i should/scrap the map altogether.

...and did you have to give it a 1 twice??
Lupa (08/17/2007 02:26pm):
unless someone voted on it without commenting. just thought of that. *cough*
