Obviously, I was trying to make a map shaped like yin and yang. The roads are a bit jarring when viewing the small version of the map, so I might change that later to make the roads look nicer. The bulbous part of yin and yang are not as round as I'd've liked them to be, so I'm probably going to remake this on a larger-sized map in the future, unless that makes the map too big to play on. If I was to make it more accurate on this map, I'd have to alter the shape of the tails, and I like the tail the way it is. |
Shadow Star (11/14/2007 01:15pm):
All of the ports are shoal locked you do realize right? there are only 15 fund-producing property per side, that's, not relaly enough to allow for much sea, or for that matter much air. see, right now the map is jsut too big with too little funds. On a map like this, the FTA counter just isn't going to cut it, that extra infantry isn't going to doo anything in the first 4 or 5 turns to suitably counter the fact that OS goes first. (it could be fixed if you added some more property,) |
Saltpeter (11/14/2007 01:29pm):
Update: I changed the shape of the tail. It looks much better now. I also added some reefs. @ Shadow Star: Oopsie. Fixing the ports. Hm. I'll do something about the lack of funding properties. Hold on a sec. |
BadFurDay (11/14/2007 01:32pm):
Try to make the FTA counter represent half of the funds countries earn in one turn. As shadow star pointed out, the ports are shoal locked. If you want players to be able to build ships other than transports, remove shoals near ports. Else, keep it as is. Shadow star again got right the funding issue. Add more neutral cities on the map. I don't see anything else really wrong about that map, though those huge clumps of plains lack terrain variety (that sure affects on the visual properties of the map, but also on strategy built around terrain defenses, which is a rather important difference maker in many games). This is yet again better than your previous map. Once more, not my style of maps, so I won't rate it, I'll let the others judge how much it's worth ;) Keep on practicing and incorporating the various elements you get from criticism and you'll be better soon enough |
Saltpeter (11/14/2007 01:38pm | Edited: 11/14/2007 01:53pm):
Update: Unlocked the ports, put three more neutral cities on each side, and added some more terrain to the contentious land in the center of the map. It's been a while since I played Advance Wars, and so forgot that ships don't go on shoals. Ever since my GBA blew up, and since my Gamecube is stored away, I haven't had the chance. It's easily my favorite GBA game. @ FurDay: ;>.> Like I said, I don't expect to get worse at this any time soon. As for the huge clumps of plains(which I don't consider that huge, myself >_>), I'll make them good. I'll also fix the poor aesthetics of the roads. Update: Messed with the roads, made them less jarring. Added more mountain ranges to mix up the heug!!1! plains. Added a couple of neutral bases near the contentious ground because there were otherwise only two bases per side, and I didn't like that. Threw in a couple more trees, too. |

Looks pretty nice. Great job making a concept map actually playable and balanced :P I'd say you're showing some nice improvement already. The next step is to rid of you that nasty little silo fetish... And by the way, what are the lab units supposed to be? Or do you just think they look pretty? Anyways I'll give you an 8/10. I'm really ADD aren't I? :P |
Saltpeter (11/14/2007 05:02pm):
Thanks! ^_^ Games are my favorite artistic medium. ;>.> Level editors are a greater plus to me in a given game than multiplayer. I like mah silos. =( It's only two, on contentious ground. That's not so bad! u.u As for the labs...well, I figure all kinds of units would make good lab units. What if all air units or all naval units were lab units? I think that'd make for an interesting match. |

Note that Orange's forward base is 17 squares away from Blue's preplaced Recon. So ban Sturm. (I learned this the hard way.) |
