Red11 (12/13/2007 06:13am):
What I had in mind here is 2000 credits per property. |
|
Alathon (12/13/2007 06:58am):
Do you have something against cities? Or roads that are longer then 1 square? |
|
Red11 (12/13/2007 10:01am):
I recommend a game without CO Powers... |
|
DuelStriker (12/13/2007 10:03am):
Base heavy/10 even with 2000 funds per turn and CO powers off, it will be just infantry spam. |
|
Red11 (12/13/2007 10:05am):
Sounds like you've got it worked out, but not every player has it all worked out. ;-) |
|
BadFurDay (12/13/2007 10:27am):
Infantry spam/10 Remove bases. Add cities. Do more terraining. If you really want your map to be a mech/infantry spam map, at least make it smaller, half of the map area is useless there. |
|
Red11 (12/13/2007 10:53am):
I don't want my map to be ham, I mean spam. Should I make it 3000 credits/ per turn? Anyway, Im play testing it with Small Geezer now... |
|
BadFurDay (12/13/2007 11:00am):
If you set it to 3000 credits/turn then: 1) the FTA counter will be off 2) it won't help the fact that the map is very underterrained and quite bland |
|
Red11 (12/13/2007 11:02am):
Should I just kill myself? This is my 1st map! |
|
JoeVector (12/13/2007 11:12am):
That, or you could actually edit the map using the suggestions you were given. |
|
BadFurDay (12/13/2007 11:17am):
Nah, at least you got the FTA counter right for your first map, which we rarlely see around ;) Read those links: Mapping 101: http://www.amarriner.com/awbw_forum/viewtopic.php?t=9187 FTA explained in details: http://www.amarriner.com/awbw_forum/viewtopic.php?t=8518 |

Red11 (12/13/2007 11:34am):
My map may be BLAND. But other maps are RIDICULOUS. Like the ones with 3 identical maps on the same map??? |
|
Red11 (12/13/2007 11:42am):
Earlier I had the idea that I would reverse the position of the top two controlled bases. Thus completely unbalancing the map and inviting attacks on the Capital.... |
|
BadFurDay (12/13/2007 11:43am):
Ehm, you seem not to understand some concepts yet. If you mean this map: http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=31933 - then it's a gimmick map, all 3 players play in all of the 3 different positions, having to attack and defend at the same time, I personally found it rather clever. But then yes, comparing your maps with other random maps in here is easy, since around 75% of the design maps submitted are rubbish. Don't take offense to what is said and rather consider it as constructive criticism: I'm pointing out that your map is bland, because it's basically a huge clump of plains with a few mountains, forests, and single tiles of road placed totally randomly. Too much empty space and random terraining isn't the way to go, it leaves nearly no place to strategy as the terrain value is pretty much 1 star everywhere. Plus, the lack of roads causes wheeled units (recons&rockets) to be totally useless. And the fact that it's too big for what it is makes the blandness even more rough. |

JoeVector (12/13/2007 11:43am | Edited: 12/13/2007 11:45am):
BFD kind of said it all. By the way, your symmetry is wrong too. :P |
|
Red11 (12/13/2007 11:49am):
It was meant to be a battle of Kursk, 'or the myth of the battle of Kursk' A huge fluid tank battle, I think I will rev up the credits. It was meant to be ironic, you win the tank battle and move your armour onto the enemy bases, but then you are faced with a mountain holdout, like the mythical Nazi holdout, after WW2 ended, which you may have read about. ;-) |
|
Tyrael (12/13/2007 04:28pm):
Everything is bases, so regardless of how you set funds, the battle will just be: 1k- infantry spam (12 inf per side per turn = not fun) 2k- inf/mech spam 3k- mech spam 4k- mech spam, arty every once in awhile 5k- mech/arty spam 6k- tank/inf spam, maybe some arty 7k and above- tank/inf/arty spam There's going to be WAY too many units running around here regardless. Cut down to 3-4 bases per side maximum. This map has produced a very enjoyable battle, in its 1st game. It wasnt really 'spam', just a long front, with attempted break throughs, massed artillery and rockets. My enemies front has just been shattered and now I am pushing forward with APCs providing ceasless inf reinforcements. |

WELL DONE RED 11 i see you are taking on the trolls single-handedly. i hope you dont mind if i help out a bit 1st --the sahara is a bit bland ... but it could host an excellent battle ! why should you want to make yet another standard map? with evenly spread terraining? what is wrong with such variety ? i played on a similar multi base map recently --- and it was a good battle ... perhaps this kind of map does get spamm-jammed for evenly matched very good or experienced players ... but those people are not obliged to play the map ... though i would suggest they try especially in FogOfWar because they may be surprised. Spamming is an important strategy employed in part on many good maps ... so why not learn to spam in a pure form ... it is proven that not so experienced players can learn much from such maps ... i think awbw is big enough to have a few of these training maps around. Dont change anything. |

i guess the trolls do have a theoretical point but they should also take note from the test game result reported by red11. |
