Days Of Ruins (10/02/2008 05:13pm):
This is why it looks familiar. http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=13502
walkerboh01 (10/11/2010 10:39pm):
I love that this map requires naval units in order to have success.
black-kaito (08/30/2011 10:55am):
Turn it to BM's, the neutral port near OS's factories.
I think it was enogh for FTAc on this map.

There IS STA now...
walkerboh01 (09/01/2011 03:18am):
I don't think so. I looked at your game, and you sacrificed 2 infantry to build the first bboat as
Player 1. It's not STA, it's just a poor capture phase decision on your part. ;-)
black-kaito (09/02/2011 01:39pm):
The fact that I had to give up those 2 infs to build a B-boat on time shows
how hard it is for OS to counter the gift for BM, don't you think so?

My severe situation is mainly caused by some terrible transportation ( and I know why I
went to do that ) , though...
walkerboh01 (09/09/2011 03:53pm):
No, I don't think so. You sacrificed the 2 infs to get the first bboat, where Player 1 should really
get the 2nd bboat. That's how FTA counters generally work, and this map should be perfectly
balanced. If Player 1 /could/ get the black boat first without sacrificing, that would be FTA.
julberndt (09/16/2011 09:47pm):
i choose this map two times one with max and other with drake, orange star, and goind to win
the second easily, i think that bases on the islands could begin already each one to BM and OS
walkerboh01 (10/05/2011 12:00am):
It's a very good map that encourages naval units quite successfully. If it weren't for the density
of the cities and the general likelihood of stalemates, I'd say this is a 9/10. But as it is, I'm giving it
an 8/10.
blanci1 (10/09/2011 11:12pm):
A very different kind of map and very peculiar strategies and COs needed i d imagine.
Yeah a map id like to play some friendlies on first, before having to jump in the deep end
to learn to swim during a competition.
xushu (10/12/2011 12:59pm):
Kind of urban, but I suppose the amount/importance of ports make that a necessity. The play is
rather predictable, but not boring. I say 8/10
blanci1 (11/01/2011 02:05pm | Edited: 11/07/2011 05:19pm):
he he ... i wouldnt think this is predictable except on the level that theres gonna be tons of
infantry spammed.. but the really critical decisions seem pretty far from predictable .
I expect , like me, a lot of players are gonna get a real surprise here when things go
unexpectedly banana shaped... i scraped through my game here by the
skin of my banana because my opponenet somehow didnt realise he was winning.
This is a really wierd and difficult map !
Probly will be banned from competition because it will drive people bananas.

kailg (11/05/2011 05:36pm | Edited: 11/05/2011 05:40pm):
I calculated the hq victory for BM with lander and infantry, and it will take eight turns.
The stupid way OS can prevent loss is by saving up for a rocket, which will take
up 6 turns, provided it will move to position and you buy nothing else (or you could buy
two infantry in the process which will still save OS by a turn). So, in the end, BM has
the upper hand in terms of mobility and time, but OS has the upper hand in fire power.
This will prove to be a very interesting game.
blanci1 (11/07/2011 05:33pm):
kailg--
i cant see that happening really.....
dont forget OS can get a black boat at latest just after BM gets a BB (cheaper and sooner
than lander)... and since his HQ island is really close to his bases/port he gets there
sooner , surely?
Red11 (02/26/2014 11:04am | Edited: 02/26/2014 11:04am):
The opening stage is a bit dull. Ie a large number of uncontested captures.

I am questioning my sanity as well as my strategy, I'm going with Koal
walkerboh01 (09/13/2021 04:10pm):
This map is in the Hall of Fame as one of the most influential standard competitive maps of its era (approx. 2007 - 2010).
Tahu! (08/24/2022 12:09am):
Very interesting map for novice and casual players. Without FoW, the early game transport ferrying and the late game naval play is really interesting. The abundance of shores makes it easy for transports to get around, and the relatively small naval space has a lot of tricky area denial for rockets.

Playing with 1500 funds as Olaf, the normal CO power to cause 1 day of snow brings the naval combat to a halt as subs get 2 move and cruisers+landers 3, which gives a lot of fun ways to deny enemy reinforcements and give you time to move up and deny space for transports. With 1500 funds per property, there's just enough money per turn at even bases to build a single battleship, which makes lategame a little quicker and sea-focused.

Very fun map for sea battling!

Looking at the stats, its quite ironic how this map still has heavy FTA lol.
