How are you supposed to kill a Battleship? /edit: Especially in FOW (send a BBoat there LOL)? |
benbever (05/08/2008 08:56pm | Edited: 06/02/2008 10:27am):
Good point, however, I doubt there will be many battleships build on this map. outside FOW: -use artillery and/or rockets FOW: -ignore the battleship -do the same on your side of the map -use artillery and/or rockets, and send black boats or landers for vision, or use sonja's scop ;) |
rast2 (06/01/2008 06:43pm):
I think it would just be better without ports and labs. Nice look tho. |
benbever (06/02/2008 10:27am):
hmm I was afraid that with only cities and bases the map would be bland. That why I turned one city into a seaport. It also helps avoid stalemates, I think, by giving the possibility to battleship when standoffs occur. The lab is just to put something in the empty area. It can be ignored in non lab games :) and be used if people want lab games. I thought about makes it a tower, but the fronts don't have heavy terrain, so a tower might be a bit much. Also there are already enough maps with towers, unbalancing the game. |

benbever (05/09/2008 01:56am): Good point, however, I doubt there will be many battleships build on this map. Unit:Game rate = 0.265 This is more than 1/4 of all games. They all have been decided by someone building a Battleship and the other one not able to destroy it (I doubt that BOTH players built a BShip in these games). As that BShip will lock one of your bases (as soon as they managed to take over that port) and possibly also lock the way from the other bases to that very front, the Arty counter won't work as there is no way to bring them to the BShip efficiently (= without getting destroyed). Even if - the BShip would just move 2 spaces down and is out of range then. Conclusion: BShip = win I would suggest making these ports cities - or possibly something like Labs, Comms or even Airports! |
rast2 (08/25/2008 03:58pm):
None of the current completed games or active games have Bships. |
Harti1990 (08/26/2008 05:55am):
Cause they're all day 3-6 or something -.- |
benbever (08/26/2008 06:20am):
The bship can be destroyed with rockets and arty, and you can build a bship yourself. Playtesting indicates however that battleships are not a viable strategy. The battleship is too expensive (and too weak against landunits) to deploy on this map. Because of pretty low funds and uneven fronts, this map is a quick battle. If somehow a player (as colin or drake or something) manages to build a bship and win with it, then that player deserves the win. I playtested this map 5 times with good players (rockman) and no bships were build. After that I monitored over 20 games on it (mostly league games) with good players like kamuscha, and bships didn't play a role. The bships that were build, were build after one player got a lot more income and had actually already all but won. I haven't seen one game that got decided by bship, or where bships played a role. Even black boats seem to expensive sadly. I won't change the port into a city and make the map more normal/stale. Unless you convince me that a bship = win, for instance by inviting me for a testgame, and showing that bships are a winning or at least very good or annoying strategy. |
Dhomochevsky (02/04/2009 05:28pm | Edited: 02/04/2009 05:30pm):
No serious player will build battleships on this map. With around 18K funds per turn, that's more than 1.5 days income, which would give your opponent a huge land advantage in units built (i.e. the equivalent cost in land units) and would give you... an easily targetable unit that's stuck in a small lake or on the port, costing you even more money in repairs. Granted it has 6 range, but as benbever says it can easily be picked off by artillery or even just ignored, secure in the massive ground advantage that the other player will have. FOW - same again, not worth the expense. Could be used to annoy but not worth it. Conclusion: BShip = lose |
benbever (02/27/2009 02:01am):
Battleships are being build on the map, but only very late game (when things begin to look like a stalemate, or after the baseswitch) or after one player has already won and has funds to spare. Building a battleship early game or midgame is not a winning strategy (in fact it's a losing strategy.) |
Falconewing (09/28/2009 03:27pm):
no terrain mess-ups..I say this is a pretty good map. |
Mattimus (09/29/2009 03:52am | Edited: 09/29/2009 03:52am):
Lol awesome map. I had a lot of fun playing on it. Game ended when I built a B-ship. |
Tyrantboy (11/19/2009 03:04pm):
nice map ben |

Koal is broken on this map. |
DraconisMarch (07/20/2011 04:25pm):
How is this an S ranked map? |
xushu (10/12/2011 11:49am):
Solid, although the gameplay tends to be the same with artillery-to-rockets early and lines forming by the weak bases. Not a bad map, but not exactly the greatest either. 8/10 |

How did i just now realize this was a reference to the stratego board game? |
