Based on http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=15348

My goal was to change as little as possible about the terrain while still fixing the things I
disliked about the original.

You forgot bridging the center isle

who said he forgot?

Cool. I like the original, too, but I don't know the one I prefer.
rast2 (03/07/2008 11:23am):
Yeah I left the center isle as is purposely inkeeping with "change as little as possible". If I
were to design a map from scratch I probably wouldn't put critical properties in an infantry-
only area.
Ploumeur (03/21/2008 07:07pm):
In the original map, you said that 11k income for 3 bases is low. I don't think removing 1
base makes a better map, because you still need a lot of footsoldiers.

It seems you wanted to make a "200 squares" map over River City. The ingredients were
good: 2 bases, 1HQ and ~10 cities, several important properties equidistant from two
bases, bases of a same player far from each other, good terrain. But the size was too big
for only 2 bases by side.

Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure I agree that this is worse, though :-)

There are a lot less chance of stalemate on this version. On the left OS has the advantage,
though BM gets a tower. Most of the fighting is on the main area where the cities are, but
sometimes BM sneaks a recon or tank over the bridge. On the right, the situation is
reversed. Both players can send a trickle of infantry to the middle cities to grab a extra
funds, but unlike the original map, those cities aren't critical. Even though the two fronts are
far apart, they still impact each other because you have to divide your spending between
them.

Pointless visual change: move the bridges one more square away from the edges and instead
make a 3 way intersection road (and you can then delete the middle bridge if you want)
because bridges on the edge of the map make rivers look weird IMO.

On a more important note: the mountains placed in the map are pointless except FOW, and
also there are tons of 1 and 2 square wide choke points on this map.

Overall I like the improvement though.
