Rating maps is not an habit of mine but I believe it deserves more than a 6. 10/ |

zap ... you need to also say how many games had been played ..... now it stands OS = 5 against BM = 2 wins. Let us say it was 3 v 0 when you looked. It could be just a chance thing with only a few games having been played. Toss a coin 3 times and you have 1 in 4 chances of getting all 3 the same..... 25 % thats quite possible. there might be fta but it may depend on the best first course of action ... perhaps the counter infantry is better, say, on the HQ --to give the 2nd player choices. One other important factor could be that the player who creates the map usually would choose OS without thinking much ..... and HE may well like and be confident and good at playing this kind of map. Also his opponents may have been all newbs .... i just created 3 games and got 3 newb opponents --- and thats a guaranteed 3 wins for OS !! .... in fact there should be quite a bit of bias toward OS in general at AWBW. For other pairs of COs i wouldnt expect much bias because one tends to choose by looking at the map rather than from the drop down (where OS is first). Typical favourite colours may show some bias though. Its an interesting topic .... is it discussed in a forum anywhere? |

i was thinking an island land battle with a bit of sea activity might be good for a change and i found this in my favs ... perfect ! Having now played a few moves and made a significant blunder, my loaded black boat just bumped into the enemy in fog, was i dreaming ?.... i am begining to think this is a very difficult map to play well , many tricky choices, leasy to go wrong, but good fun with land sea and air.---------------------- EXCELLENT ! Edit: MMMmmmm except for one quite common map problem ... "dividing line no-mans land" -- on this map the horizontal centre strip is very bare, devoid of properties and forest cover for fog, so it could be very stand off-ish, at least for the land forces. Sometimes i feel almost random terraining is better -- symetrising (done for fairness) often results in an exposed tract which can be hard to cross especially in fog . Soln: put a few forests olong that central strip . I guess it is a valid map as it stands, especially with air and sea dimensins, but against a good defence it could be hard to make progress in fog. (actually quite a lot of maps have this problem... i will post in forum about this , and remove this wall of text from here as soon as i can) |
