Solofo (11/18/2005 02:09pm):
Hello everyone, This is a VERY accurate geographical representation of France. The rivers, the mountain range and the city location are as accurate as they can be (I used a real map to do it). The things that aren't accurate are: - base and airport location - roads - forrests I used roads to make the game balanced and make some part of France more accessible (especially the mid-eastern part). I placed bases and airport in a way which I believe will make this map a very well balanced map. Although the map may look messy (hey, not my fault in the Seine, Rhone, Loire, Jura and the Alps are so close to each other lol), I really do believe this map will be a blast to play (especially as the map offers different types of matches whether you play in the nothern part, southern part, eastern part or western part). Please rate my map (be generous lol). If you give it a bad score, can you at least comment on why you gave it a bad score (and play on the map as well... it may make you change your negative feeling about the map). Thanks all, have a good day. |

+1 Accurate landformation. -1 Funky rivers colliding with cities. The 4-Way river is considered a lake, BTW. -1 Chokepoints. 5/10 |

I'd like to have the opportunity to respond to this. - The funky rivers aren't colliding with cities. The cities are on top of the rivers like they are in real life (example: Paris has half of its territory north of the Seine river and the other half south of it, both parts being liked with dozens of bridge to form a single city). Now, the thing is that, "I think", it adds something to the map: here, cities are not only beneficial for the usual reasons (funds, repair, etc, defense bonus, CO power, etc), but they also act as bridge. i.e. if you take a city, your enemy has to destroy your unit in that city to cross the river. That's like a realistic situation, and you can see than in WWII wars (and movies), the capturing of bridges and cities was so crucial (to cross the many european rivers). Now I know this means the map is accurate but still has too many chokepoints. What I hope I accomplished is that the map offer a diverse amount of challenge. The fight should be very open in the area around the neutral airport. Same for the north western area and north eastern. The Grit-like choke point fighting really will take place in the south and mid-eastern part. To make things more balanced (I hope), there are also airport... Well, that's some of the explanation... maybe I could improve it by adding more airports and bridge to cross the rivers... what do you think? |

I don't like the fact that BM has more able defence than OS with all those mountains. |
