Small Geezer (11/16/2010 05:41am):
My first attempt...off work sick and bored... I tried to design a map I'd like playing; fog of war is a given. The idea was simple; a couple of early choices could be key and make the map look something like a real landscape. Not sure if I've succeeded on either count, but please let me know your thoughts. I like the look of it, but the contested neutral bases are a problem. I'd start with the lower central neutral base as a preowned OS base and the other central base a preowned BH base. |

Not a bad idea...my thoughts were that the initial decisions would be key; do you rush to the centre or take the east or west bases. Interesting to know what others think. Thanks for your thoughts :-) |

One starting base and realistically contested neutral bases means day 2 recons and s*** hits the fan. Also, STA because BH effectively goes first. You're going to have some kind of balance issue from recons, most likely the game ends with one player getting both their bases and disrupting their opponent long enough to get a decisive advantage. I agree with walker, make the central bases preowned and set up some interesting dynamics off of that to preserve what you're after. I get what you're going for, some open battles on the sides with a really tight one in the center, and if you moved the side bases so that it still led to the BH-OS-BH-OS base pattern that I'm guessing you were going for here, that tension could still work without the balance issues. |

Thinking about it in terms of recons, I get the issue. I changed the middle bases from neutral to pre-owned. I thought about also moving the outer bases, but on reflection I quite liked the idea of the side to side battle with the top and bottom coming into play; could make for some interesting pincer movements! |

BH inf should probably go on the other base then. Also, consider moving the Comms elsewhere and replacing them with cities, otherwise the game basically ends once one player gets both. |

Thanks Ratatoskr, good comments. I've amended as per your suggestions. What do you think, time to play test? |

OK, so I now have an 8 and a 2 for this. Please leave a note to explain why you think this is so bad! |

people often leave low marks without condescending to let us know why ..he he... anyway you are lucky...they could have given a 1 ... Interesting map ... not artistic like some maps, but i think it has some original gameplay features.... which really is what counts. Particularly I like : (1) the difficult choice whether to run backward for funding or rush forward to grab territory, and (2) the central mountain gives interesting gameplay choices. Nice. Mmmmm maybe you have still got a recon rush problem? Why give a day 1 income high enough for recon? If you really wanna get rid of recon rush hassle you could simply pre- own all 3 bases and give 2 inf counter on the 2 backward bases. |
