NDA|D007 (01/16/2015 01:55pm):
Based on a map from the classic PC strategy game Total Annihilation. Medium-sized asymmetrical battlefield which is designed to favour naval combat. Play with high funds (1500-2000) and ban the usual plus Sami. I've taken various steps to provide balance but would like to playtest this to shed some more light. Not sure how well this map will translate from RTS to turn-based strategy, but it should be interesting either way. Any comments/suggestions appreciated. |

Property clumping makes it difficult to dislodge whoever is on it. Especially on a map like this where you could just post two artillery and they'd pretty much defend each other. Honestly the map seems a bit plain with absolutely NOTHING in the middle. There is no incentive to travel to your opponent's half unless you have a massive army that can back you up. That's the biggest thing. If you put some properties in the middle or a central island it gives people an incentive not to camp and turtle in their own base. |

Indeed, there's not much room on the two islands and there's a fairly big open space of ocean. Actually I did consider adding some islands in the centre as these were both factors in the original map, and as I remember there was a much larger version of the map released at a later date (called "Shore to Shore") which had some islands in the sea to mix things up. However, these points also tend to favour the use of heavy naval and/or air power (which in turn makes artillery/property camping difficult at best), and hopefully this will be possible with the use of high funds (1500-2000 as I said, or even 3000 if you're feeling bold). I'd be interested to see how things play out on the map as it is first, but if things do prove to tend towards a stalemate then I'll definitely go ahead with the central island(s). In such a case I'd be thinking of a central port with a few cities to match and hopefully balanced opportunities to land. |
