the least you can do is make your map interesting instead of adding the same old gimmicks and curvy lines to make them look aesthetically pleasing, because they play bad 1/10 |

The least you can do is make your comments interesting instead of using the same old trolling to elicit a reaction, because they're not working. Oh right, and you also missed the meta-humor of the map name and style along with your comments. 0 for 2, man. |
joly_is_a_fag (05/17/2012 08:39pm):
EVERY ONE of your maps look the same, you're as the title suggests,a one trick pony that makes these crappy 1v1 maps |
mori5 (05/17/2012 08:41pm):
There you go, good recovery there. Now all you need to do is add some unrelated ad hominem in there and you're golden. |
MorganLeah (05/17/2012 08:52pm):
I don't suppose you'd mind linking us to some examples of maps you consider to be of high quality, joly? |
mori5 (05/17/2012 08:57pm | Edited: 05/17/2012 08:58pm):
You figure he'd be happy, I just went out of my way to make a map that's both a joke in the sense that it's stylistically similar to Atlas, like many of my maps, and as such goes along perfectly with joly's comments, and at the same time is actually a fairly solid design (could be better) and as a further joke has a name that's associated with both repetition as well as a song I linked only recently on the forums. But the real joke is that it only took me about 5 to 10 minutes to make, and it's gotten me a decent amount of entertainment thusfar. Thanks joly, for being all that you can ever hope to be. |
joly_is_a_fag (05/17/2012 08:58pm):
http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=54711 this map, for example, may not be the eye candy that mori makes, but I think it plays very well and looks fun. As for mori's reply, he himself knows that the point I made about all his maps looking the same is true, and thus he calls me a troll |
Kataiser (05/17/2012 09:02pm):
Hey, joly, I have a question regarding that map. How does Koal? There are severe design issues, the islands are too isolated, the pre-owning of the towers is literally useless from the proximity of opponent bases, the terraining is awful, and the CFTA isn't sufficient and leads to the first player having advantage. And I only looked at the map for about twenty seconds and I see these issues. Come back when you have a real argument or you'll just be a failed troll, bro. It's funny to see you make you look bad, but you do need to stop that thing probably. :3 |
Kataiser (05/17/2012 09:08pm):
Also, 10 because derp. It's actually not a great map compared to your other ones, but I'd totally still call it acceptable for low and mid tier. |
mori5 (05/17/2012 09:09pm):
Def yo. Was mainly made as a joke once I realized the joly comment wasn't a one time thing, figured it'd be funny to take advantage of when I had the opportunity. |
Kataiser (05/17/2012 09:11pm):
How is it that your joke maps are better than my normal ones? XD Well done, sir. |
mori5 (05/17/2012 09:12pm):
Your latest map that you Skype'd me is very solid looking, I look forward to when that's finished. |
joly_is_a_fag (05/17/2012 09:13pm):
note how his joke map looks exactly like every other map he makes he spreads about terrain randomly and comes up with creative titles to try to pass that he's a good map maker, because, while individually I would rate this map a 7, ALL HIS MAPS LOOK THE SAME! |
MorganLeah (05/17/2012 09:22pm):
You know, joly, I've never cared all that much about how maps look. I mean, if there's something aesthetically wrong with them I don't like that, but otherwise I care much more about how they play. And all of Mori's maps play most excellently. Also, unless this account is just an alt, I can't help but notice you haven't played a single game here, so how exactly would you know how well any of these maps play? |
joly_is_a_fag (05/17/2012 09:25pm):
playing on the carts |
Mori2 (05/17/2012 09:29pm):
Joly, I'm going to temporarily give you the benefit of the doubt here and pretend that you're being completely serious. Of course, everyone here knows you aren't, but just humor me here for a second (As if you haven't been already). Here's a bunch of my maps that don't use the tried and true Atlas method of 3 base 1 airport 17x17 ish balancing. http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=57939 http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=57765 http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=57866 http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=57938 http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=57784 That's just a small sample. When you make far over a hundred maps for the same game, you start messing around with common themes that you see work on other maps. You mess around with the idea of making the exact same layout, but with altered base placement, or more or less contested cities, because you're curious as to how it affects gameplay. When you find things that work really well in competitive play, you use those motifs on other maps because there's no sense in fixing what isn't broken. This has happened in every game I have ever made maps for, and AWBW is no exception. Trust me, when you make enough maps, you'll understand what I mean. You might want to get started soon, though, I've got a year or so of a head start. |
joly_is_a_fag (05/17/2012 09:33pm):
ahaha, sorry if I've drove you crazy, but yes, I wasn't being serious, I was trying to troll you, but evidently you're above that, not going to reveal myself though |
airob (05/17/2012 09:51pm):
Hey letīs all be friends and consume drugs... o wait... we already are... just look at the comments...seriously guys. He said he is trolling so stop taking him seriously. |
Kataiser (05/17/2012 09:58pm):
But it's fun to make people look stupid! D: |
joly_is_a_fag (05/17/2012 09:59pm):
btw I have mapped for half life and counter strike 1.6 , and i do not relate to what mori said |
joly_is_a_fag (05/17/2012 10:16pm):
actually now that i think of it, i DO relate to it most competitive bomb/defuse maps have 2 bombsites spread out, and a mid connector/rotation section with one site being easily rushed, and the other being more open but is further away |

mori5 (05/18/2012 01:05am):
With the original setup, the towers could be recon rushed, forcing an awkward capture phase. Bases switched to compensate. |
walkerboh01 (05/18/2012 01:07pm):
Ah, you always know something fun is happening when a map gets over 20 comments in a day. Looks like I missed all the fun though, since the troll turned himself in already. Also, does anyone else love how Mori handles trolling? He's almost a little /too/ used to it. =p And for the record, I think it's really interesting to see just how differently similar-looking maps play. For instance, this map is basically Atlas with the terrain and properties shifted around slightly, like it went through a little distortion field. But I guarantee it will play and develop differently from Atlas, which is really cool! So even if a lot of Mori's recent maps do admittedly look similar to each other (and Atlas =p ), the influences those small changes have on gameplay are very revealing to how map features affect games. It's like a fun little research project haha. |
Airbo (05/18/2012 11:52pm):
Itīs fun cus mori treats trolls in a respectful manner while i just curse them with no argument at all. :P |
Mori2 (05/19/2012 06:13pm):
One of the easiest ways to deal with trolls is to claim that they are terrible at the only thing that they think they are talented at doing, but you have to keep it mildly subtle, you have to make it seem like you've fallen for whatever it is they're trying to make you fall for. That way, when they finally understand you've been making fun of them the entire time, it's all the more irritating to them. Give them easy ammo so that you always know what they're going to say next. Bonus points for using double entendres or other clever wordplay. |
