ChurKirby (12/07/2012 01:36pm | Edited: 12/07/2012 01:54pm):
Disclaimer: I make no attempt to hide the blatant resemblance of this map to a certain Blastwave™ by SmackCakes. The basic layout is borrowed (borrowed is such a nicer word than 'ripped') directly from that map - reason being that I really like the aesthetic and concept - but admittedly I'm not a big fan of towers in the majority of games. This is essentially a variation on that map with significant gameplay differences; firstly and most obviously is the total absence of towers or ports. Secondly is the addition of a central line of sea tiles, for aesthetic purposes along with going a little way to dividing the map into a distinct upper and lower path. Last, and probably least, is the addition of reefs (don't we love them). Games should be less fast-paced as a result of changes, and terrain likely favour indirects a tad more than Blastwave, but hopefully not to the extent that it becomes too chokey or stale - it would need play-testing to be sure. |

Not liking the FTA/counter method here... and it is pretty much a ri-, er, 'borrow', of Blastwave. So, don't know how I feel about this one... recons ftw |

there should be at least 2 preown bases each side in order to counter FTA |

Is that right? I never realised that two bases were a requirement; in the past (I haven't published a map on this site for over 4 years) I've pretty much always fallen back on the 3000 starting funds / infantry counter, because any more funds starts to feel unbalanced. I’ve never been sure if there's a 'perfect' catch all FTA counter which can be applied to all / most maps. Regardless, I've changed the starting properties around a bit. Regarding the overwhelming similarity to the template map... well, I won't be able to change anyone's opinion on that, it is what it is. I don't want to create discontent or bitterness so if the community (or SmackCakes himself) aren't happy with this then I'll unpublish it, but I'm fairly confident that this is an acceptable thing to do... |

He did say at least 2 bases... Also while there isn't a perfect way to counter FTA on all maps, you can make maps fair. 1 starting base a side on a symmetrical map is impossible to make fair. This is a fairly decent map though. |

What headphone said. 3k funds, 2 starting bases per side, 1 infantry to counter. That is what works in the current meta. It is, for all intents and purposes, a perfect counter on any good map. |

ChurKirby (12/08/2012 06:23am):
Good job that's what I've used in mostly every other map as a counter then |

I like the look of it quite a bit better now with the two bases preowned. |
