Any suggestions on compensating FTA?
Xmo5 (02/17/2013 11:03pm):
The way the HQs are placed that close to the opponent's base will make it really hard to
compensate for FTA. Whoever goes first gets a quick shot at the HQ. If you give no predeployeds,
OS will land on BH HQ before they can defend it, but if you give BH an inf they will have a chance to
do the same. My initial instinct is to give BH a mech on sea tile by their base, enclosed by the two
shoals, the bridge, and the forest. If you do that it will be more fair I think but OS makes the call of
how the game will be played. For example: if OS sends their first infantry to their own HQ, both
armies will be able to defend their HQ before anything lands on it. If they send it to the enemy HQ,
both armies will reach and capt once before being attacked. BH will have no incentive to send their
first infantry to their own HQ because it will never beat the mech and OS will know right away how
the beginning will play out based on their move. It isn't perfect but its the best I can think of with this
setup.

Important point to make though: This will not work if recons are not banned or the starting funds are
not decreased. You can pick whichever you like, but if you ask me, recons would be annoying on
this map anyway and the mech is expensive enough that I'd be afraid 2-3k starting funds would
make him too valuable and he might not be used as intended.

I see! Thank you very much.
Le Shad (02/18/2013 09:14am):
Hmm… I think lowered starting funds would make things more interesting. I didn't realise
that a tank can come out so quickly and go wreck havoc at the enemy's HQ.

I modified the map. Is that better?
Xmo5 (02/18/2013 11:21am):
I think that will play out much better. It will slow the capture phase so it will be
longer before anyone can afford bigger units. This should invoke more strategy and also
help with FTA I think.

Thanks for the comments and advice. Here's hoping the mech for BH won't be too much or not
enough.
