Xmo5 (04/10/2013 07:45pm):
Few tips: 1. A lot of silo's are generally considered a bad thing on this site: they take away from a lot of the fun of strategizing against similarly skilled opponents and leave a lot to luck. This is especially pronounced when they are all in a clump, in the center, or both, because it almost ensures the first player to get there a win. In this case the first turn advantage (FTA) is a little strange because you center island isn't very centered though. However, the point remains the same. 2. You add some more things to fight over. Maybe more islands and more neutral properties, possibly a couple towers or something interesting. 3. Spice up the terrain some, make it look interesting. Look at some popular maps on the map page to get a feel for what patterns of terrain look nice together if you're not sure. Generally it looks nicer if you avoid large sections (maybe 3x3 or greater) of only one terrain type. More islands will help with this too. 4. You should leave a comment on your map and let people know what your intentions were when you designed it. Did you plan it as a team game? Sometimes its nice to say whether you meant to make a map for fun, or if it was meant to be for serious competitive play. Nobody expects that on your first map though. There are a lot of other things to keep in mind when designing a map that you can read up on in the map makers guide in the forums. (below) Just remember, making maps to use with other people is much different than making maps for use against the computer. This is much harder to do well, believe me lol. http://www.amarriner.com/awbw_forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=10780 |
