I think this is one of the only times I have ever seen someone use that type of FTA counter correctly. We should totally use this map as an example in maybe an advanced FTA tutorial. Should develop well enough. |

It shall be known as Schrodinger's FTA counter. |

I mean, the whole idea with this variant of the counter is to place the infantry in such a way that its options encompass the optimal options of both bases without going beyond them. In this case, it's covering the capture of 3 total properties on the first available turn, which covers the options of both available bases without going beyond the options of either of them individually. Oftentimes, when mappers do not put the FTA counter infantry on a base, they don't really grasp why it's better to put it on a base 99% of the time. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people put the starting infantry in all sorts of crazy locations that just boil down to the second player getting more options than they should have, which would oftentimes just be fixed by moving the FTA counter infantry to a less silly location...which is usually a starting base. But here, Headphone's set up the early capture phase in such a way that it actually works here. The starting infantry can't do anything stupid, like capture something that player 1 couldn't do on their second turn, but it does have more options than it would if it was on either base. So it's great in this case. |

Added to the Global League, it's a very solid 2-base setup. |

WHat effing diff. does it make where the Grey Sky Inf. starts? |
Mori2 (07/07/2014 01:04am):
Really glad Headphone made this one, we could use more maps like this. |

"WHat effing diff. does it make where the Grey Sky Inf. starts? " Yeah, who cares?!?! It could go anywhere and be just fine! Put it on one of the YC bases, heck, put it on the YC HQ, no biggie at all! |

I'm okay with that, it would be hilarious. |

FTA seems very strong here. |

He says, as the comments above talk about how unique and still good the fta counter is. |

I like this map, the road makes recons actually useful, and thoughtful arty placement is well rewarded by the mountain ranges, even mechs are always useful. Though it's only possible to afford the recon early enough as Sasha. Still, it's a fun map that rewards highly technical play and unit placement. I even made use of that stretch of road past the river at the bottom, forcing his tank to chase down my 2 hp recon and kill it lest it interrupt a cap later. |

I find this map a little too stall friendly for the S-Rank. A wall can be relatively easy to build by the center mountain range and the opponent is forced to take shots at the central properties in the north or south. A direct assault in the middle is difficult. |
