Mori2 (09/06/2013 01:59am):
This should be silly. |
|
Veritech (09/07/2013 11:57am):
We need Oozium that travels over sea. That'd be just about right in OP-ness. But then we'd also need megatanks on legs. |
|
blozzee (09/10/2013 10:11am):
I didn't remember that Oozium can travel over sea. Oozium is always a ground unit afaik. |
|
Jackie Milton (11/16/2015 11:45pm):
lololol "OP-ness" -J.Y.M. (The "Y" stands for "You don't even know...") |
|
Xmo5 (07/08/2016 01:17pm):
Where's JLAMOP when you need him? |
|
Nyvelion (08/03/2016 08:42am):
JLAMOP? How many names does one person need? It should be 3 for everyone. Except Dumbledore. |
|
Xmo5 (08/08/2016 11:21am):
What about Henrich Wilhelm Gotfried von Waldier Hartz? I think he's the guy who named the chromosome and neuron? I always liked to say his name, though he's no Dumbledore. (Please excuse any mistakes, spelling or otherwise... I'm retrieving this from long term storage, and it looks like it got a bit faded over the years.) P.S. Just Look at My OPness |
|
Nyvelion (08/08/2016 12:14pm):
Ah, just someone I don't know then. Hard to remember everyone on AWBW. I just remember the people I like well. And the people I don't like. He must be in the middle. Or she, but that seems unlikely given details listed above. And I guess people who name things get to have more names, I think that makes sense in a way. |
|
Xmo5 (08/08/2016 01:11pm):
Oh, that's it! You acquire one name for every name you officially give something. He must have named a few things. |
|
Nyvelion (08/10/2016 09:38am):
Oh, I thought you were suggesting it actually. I'd better not name anything, I like my acronym as it is. It's how "Gem" should be spelled anyway, my spelling is correct, since it sounds like "Jet", not "Get". |
|
Xmo5 (08/22/2016 10:04am):
Or Jim, jot, jog, jam, and jig. Only exceptions I can think of are gym, gin, and gif, but you got words like gun, gum, got, gap, and god. |
|
Nyvelion (09/19/2016 02:36pm):
To be fair, gym was already taken by Jim, and gin was already taken by jinn, so those are just cases of J being right to begin with but they wanted more 3 letter words. Gif? That's just gift without the 't', it's correct. Gem is the only one that is wrong, and wasn't already a word that starts with J as an excuse. |
|
Xmo5 (10/02/2016 09:48am):
Oh, you're one of the gif(t)ers. Where I come from, it's pronounced correctly (jif) :P |
|
Nyvelion (10/05/2016 09:28am | Edited: 10/05/2016 09:29am):
Oh. Well maybe they pronounce it that way in England or whatever. They always say things in a weird way. Like advertisement. And privacy. And ate. And Z. The only thing they get right that Americans don't is herb. Pronouncing the H makes more sense to me, so they win that one. It shouldn't be that hard to say herb instead of urb. |
|
Xmo5 (10/05/2016 12:28pm):
Sure, herb with a real h makes sense because we have: have, hear, hard, hamburger, herald, horn, hungry, Hungary, Horton, hire, happy, etc. etc. But what about hour? Honest? Honor? Heir? What about words like "high" which are pronounced identically to "hi", rendering both the g and the h silent? Speaking of which, why is Hi pronounced that way? Why isn't it pronounced with a short vowel, like the hi- in hit or him? It would make more sense. Then you could add an e on the end to make hie, like you would with lie, or add a y like you would with lye. Hye there! Hie there! ... hmm, those both do look ugly, though, don't they? What about Hai? Similarly, why is weigh not just spelled wei? Do the g and h really make it that much more clear? That's not even what those letters do! Also, it's still quite distinct from way and whey that way. Okay, that's enough for now. Tune in for our next episode of Dragon Ball Zed! |
|
Nyvelion (10/12/2016 08:54am):
I understand for some of the "ho" words, since it's hard to say some of those without feeling like you're about to cough up something. And Honor with the h pronounced sounds like a dirty word anyway. I don't know what you mean by Heir though, I always pronounce the H in that, at least for the few times I've used that word since it's more of a rich person word than a poor person word. I've considered that about Hi before, it seemed like it should be Hy, or something similar, by that just makes me think Hymen, which makes me think that it used to be Hy but then part of the y broke and now it's Hi, so now that makes sense to me too. Can't say Wei, that makes it sound Chinese, we need the gh to americanize it. |
|
Xmo5 (10/13/2016 10:26am):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyAh25yD4mU Re: Heir- Do you really pronounce it with an h? I've never heard that before, at least where I'm from. If you don't mind me asking, do you have a regional accent? Do you pronounce it the same way as "hair", or is there a subtle difference, like a softer h? Very interesting! And there's no wei I'm gonna be Chinese, man, cuz like, Chinese people are from China, and that's far awei from here, man. Waight, isn't China the neim of that restaurant up the street? Oh, never mind, that's definitely China King which is, like, a totally different thing, man. But then again, I'm basically neibors with the King of China, so mayghbe I am a Chinaman, man. Igh just doughn't nough enny moor. |
|
Jackie Milton (10/13/2016 08:42pm):
Man... I miss King Buffet. It wasn't real Chinese food, of course, and I did throw up there twice, but damn was that a good restaurant. There's nothing like eating some greasy seafood, and then walking around Wal-Mart afterward. I guess mostly because it's not an orthodox pastime... Maybe I don't miss the Wal- Mart part so much, but it was a dark day when King Buffet left. Anyway, it's pronounced "ghif". Heathen. |

Xmo5 (10/14/2016 05:06pm):
Are you sure it's not gifgh? Also, glad to see you joined the party. :) |

Xmo5 (10/20/2016 12:29pm):
Hey, so what about the people who pronounce it "Yumor"? ... or dare I say it... "Yuge". https://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/ab93bd61-ecfb-4b68-805f-b039494ae78c Hey, where can I get a copy of that dictionary? Hey, I like starting sentences with "Hey,", okay? And that's A-Okay! |

I'm commenting on a map in your favorites to see how long it takes you to notice. |

Buddy, I know a queer number in my favorites when I see one. The fact that I've been primarily without internet for a day is the excuse for my response time. -J.B.M. (The "B" stands for "not your Buddy, pal") |

Xmo5 (03/20/2017 04:46pm):
I'm admittedly impressed. Nice job, buddy! |

Xmo5 (02/28/2018 04:17pm):
This needs to be revisited. I found out not too long ago about some cool silent letters and their journey from Latin, to French, and then eventually to English, changing pronunciation as they went. It was... ah screw it... I'll look it up because I won't do it justice. https://www.quora.com/In-the-word-scent-is-it-the-s-or-the-c-that-is-silent/answer/Oscar-Tay-1 Language is awesome! |

Boy, this map is a Jem, innit? |
|
Jackie Milton (01/17/2019 11:35pm):
Hardly precious enough. |

Xmo5 (02/19/2022 12:49pm):
How... how did you get here so fast?? |
