This is the sixth in a series of maps for an illustrative guide to FTA for new Players.

Explanation of FTA Part 6:

Remember how close to balanced the map in Part 4 was, even without an FTA counter? Well
this is the same map, but now things are getting complicated- we have units already on the
map to begin with. This inherently poses a problem because now Orange gets to move all 5
of their units first. What happens when Orange advances both the recon and the tank north
towards the neutral base that belongs to Blue? If Blue captures with their closest
infantry on Day 1, there is actually no way that Blue can protect their capturing infantry
from being attacked by Orange's tank. Not only that, but there is no way for Blue to hit
Orange's tank if they move it as far up as possible on Day 1. Meanwhile, no matter how
quickly Blue advances, Orange can capture their neutral base without having to use any
meatshielding at all. They will just simply capture before Blue can attack.

Now, this FTA is worse than in my previous maps in this series because you can see how
much more drastic the victory is for Orange. It gets more substantial because of how you
have to implement an FTA counter. On this map you would normally add 1 infantry for Blue
as discussed in Part 5, but now you also have pre-deployed units to consider. Following
the logic I used on that map, you should set some of Orange's units back one move so that
each team is ahead/behind "half of a turn." The problem is, how do you define half of
these units? You can break it up by funding and say you have 14k worth of units, so
therefore you should set back the infantry and recon and leave the tank where it is. While
this might partially balance the tank rush by giving both teams the opportunity, Orange
still moves their tank first. If both tanks advance, Orange can redirect their tank and
attack Blue's tank first. Or, Blue could forsee this happening and act defensively, giving
Orange the opportunity to attack their capturing infantry while still eliminating Blue
doing the same. This is the fundamental problem with balancing FTA with predeployed units:
every alteration you make to a set of predeployed units will alter the strategy each
player uses. This new strategy means FTA may take a different form that has to be
countered by altering the set of predeployed units again. This becomes a cycle that it is
very difficult to find a perfect solution to.
