i hope someone likes it. the last chip is the same but 1 quarter the number of tiles. soon i shall think about a kumara that departs from this front and evolves into a larger front with more of what the map committee wants. |

Is there actually still an active map committee? |
|
MorganLeah (01/08/2014 12:59pm):
There is. Well, sort of. The forum being down hurts our activities. |

Nyvelion (01/08/2014 03:29pm):
That's unfortunate. I've spent a lot of time since the forums went down looking through pre #45000 maps to comment on them, and I think I found a few hidden gems in them that the map committee might like. But there's no forum to post them on! I don't even remember who is on the map committee anymore... And there's nobody to ask because the only other forms of communication we've ever had were some meebo room that was instantly filled with spam from people who haven't played AWBW and just join random meepo rooms, which probably doesn't exist anymore anyway, and the IRC room which, at the rate it was declining when I stopped bothering to check it, is probably at an average of 0.0000023 users per day by now. What's left? Map comments? 2-3 people attempting to make temporary forums that nobody could find out about? I am worried. I really like this site. For personal reasons, I've always been impressed by Amarriner's projects. But it's been slowing down for years now... and a lot of great people have left, and more will leave now that we can't talk on the forums anymore. Already I miss reading the amusing jokes in General Chat, the innovation in the Customization, the interesting puzzles to be solved in Bug Reports... I'm even starting to miss the tryhards arguing about tier lists in Strategy, the Announcements which haven't had many posts since 2006, and the idiots pretending they know more than me about Mafia in Competition. RIP AWBW. I for one will likely never leave permently short of IRL death, but I've accepted that the best days are gone... |

For the record, I'm currently head of the map committee, but it's hard to tell who's still active on it. I've been trying to set things up for you guys, I set up another forum here, and grabbed Hellraider's old Tier List dealie (which arguably needs to be updated a little bit but it's still a fantastic guideline), there's places to go but no one seems to be messaging me or using em so I just kind of make stuff and post it and wait. I'm no programmer and no web developer, all I really know about for helping AWBW is game design and balancing stuff. And that I know well, but it doesn't help get our forums back online, haha. My powers are limited. I suppose what I should be doing is sending this URL to essentially every user I can find on the site, but that's gonna take a day or two. http://isndev.omgforum.net/c5-advance-wars-by-web http://isndev.omgforum.net/t517-current-state-of-awbw-january-8th-2014 And I'm still updating the Global League rotation and trying my best to find and make new, solid maps. As long as I'm around, that particular aspect of the site isn't dead. And I'll try to get some more public games rolling, but right now life is making it a bit hard to get enough money to eat and sleep, haha. I know MorganLeah or someone in MC has been doing a lot of categorization recently, and I appreciate the help. I guess the biggest thing I could help with is making new map-making guides. We could use those. I can do those. And I can add as many of the old forum categories as I remember to that one until someone makes something better, like Bug Reports and Customization. Also how bout this map |

If there were more community events or something happening, perhaps it would be more lively. Truth is, now that the forums are gone, and amarriner's own website too, I fear AWBW will randomly perish as well. This and FEBW (to the best of my knowledge) are amarriner's last functioning sites. |

where did amarriner go? |
|
MorganLeah (01/09/2014 02:29pm):
Time for a comment wall of my own, whee! First: the IRC is not dead at all. As I type this there's 11 people in it, and it's usually more in the evenings. There's not always a lot of talking, but it's usually not hard to start some up. Second, I do believe that we'll get the forums back at some point. I've heard a bit about what went wrong, though I don't know the details; something about database corruption. So it's a doozy, but it should get fixed eventually. To the best of my knowledge, the active map committee is mori, myself, and headphone. On that note, while I've been doing a bit of categorization I haven't done a lot, so it's my guess that headphone is the one mostly behind that. I still want to do that basic mapmaking guide I was thinking about a while back, but life keeps me busy. We'll see what happens. Bout this map: it's atrocious. Amarriner, I believe, just leads an incredibly busy life doing stuff, and as such does not prioritize spending any time being on/working on awbw, beyond keeping it running. |

Dang it guys. Don't put great comments on terrible maps. Go put them on Mori's maps or something, that way the fate of these comments aren't in the hands of mires. Also, genius factory. We should have a map category for otherwise shitty maps that are excellent only for their comments. Thank me later. |
