Jackie Milton (09/06/2015 12:41am):
So I am by no means an expert on map theory, but I know enough to be constructive on general concepts. Generally, I'm usually just making snarky comments and bad jokes and/or poetry, but sometimes I try to be serious. With that said, hopefully this information will be helpful. 1) the fact that you have an FTA counter is very good, especially on your first map. However, the circumstances make the counter... wrong, to put it simply. The point of the counter is to give the 2nd player exactly one half the advantage of the first. For the sake of brevity, I will suggest how you should change the map for a proper FTA counter, for explanation, feel free to read this: http://amarriner.com/awbw_forum/viewtopic.php?t=8518 Make all cities neutral. Give each player their neutral base to start. Leave the infantry where it is. 2)Terrain. Honestly, the forest clump wouldn't be too bad if it weren't for position. This line will promote lots of indirects on either side ultimately leading to stalemate. I would open up a two-space-wide section near the center. In addition, you should put some forests and mountains elsewhere for the sake of both aesthetics and strategy. (Put some reefs in the ocean too.) Those are the glaring issues (unless I'm overlooking something). The funding at 9k seems reasonable to me. I might add a few cities closer to the front lines to give each player something to fight over. Other than that, not a bad first work. I can tell you mine was, lol. But my first map had other circumstances that made it "good". -J.W.M. (The "W" stands for "Western shootout... *shudder*") |
