I'm not sure if anyone's given you this link before, but this is a great guide for map making for AWBW: http://isndev.omgforum.net/t681-intro-to-mapping-101-by-fugue There are quite a few other great resources on that forum, but this one will cover all of the basics for making a fun and playable map on AWBW. The reason we need/have so many restrictions and rules is because, since people are harder to outsmart than the AI in the original games, maps on AWBW have to be made perfectly (or near-perfectly) balanced for people to enjoy playing on them. That's probably the main reason why you've been getting a lot of criticism. Most of your maps are clearly one-sided or have a lot of predeployed units (usually a big no-no around here) and the majority of players here realize what kinds of problems they will cause based on their experience. Now, keep in mind that there are a lot of things you *can* do that people will tell you not to do, but believe me when I say that they have good reason. Number 1 on this list is making asymmetrical maps. Yes, it's possible to make a sufficiently balanced asymmetrical map, but the problem is that it takes a very very deep understanding to be able to do that effectively . Even the best map makers on the site tend to avoid it because they know how much work it takes to get everything just right. In much the same way that someone with very little driving experience would need lots of practice with the basics (and more) before driving a tractor trailer through an obstacle course, we always recommend that map makers get comfortable with making consistently good maps before jumping to a highly advanced thing such as asymmetry. Predeployed units (with the exception of FTA counters) are the same way. If you seriously want to make good maps I suggest you read the guide I linked above (and join us in discussion on the forum where it's uploaded!), look through the A, S, and other categorized maps to see what people are looking for in different types of maps, and respond well to criticism from most users. Take it from someone who's been in your shoes- it might seem like everybody just wants to hate on your maps, but most of the time they know what they're talking about, even if it comes off as a little harsh. Good luck and hope to see you on the forum! |

I made this map as a joke |

That should be your disclaimer for most of your maps. |

Whether this map was made as a joke or not, I still think everything I said in my previous comment is worth reading if you'd like to be taken more seriously as a mapper. We also generally consider it to be good practice to leave the first comment on your own map to say anything important about it (such as "This map is a joke map") so that people have a better idea of how to judge it. Oh, and the primary reason I left the comment here is because of your (strikingly similar) map "royal straight" which appears to be unpublished now. http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=65722 In the comments you seemed to want to improve your map and you didn't really take any of the feedback into account for this map, hence my comment. |

I'm curious as to what, exactly, the joke is supposed to be. |

Joke maps should be more... jokier. Our friend Nyvelion has perfect examples of what joke maps should look like |
