All that's going to happen here is that OS's mech will approach the central base and when it lands on the forest, BM will have the opportunity to either attack it with both infantry or attack with one and capture with the other. Regardless, I'm having a hard time imagining a scenario where OS gets the central base. It looks like BM will either capture it or at least have little trouble keeping the advantage and preventing OS from getting it for quite a while (unless they goof). |

I figured as much, but this is practically doomed from the start on the very principle; even giving each player 2 bases with a conventional counter would not be fair here. The single central base makes it impossible to perfectly balance FTA because no matter what you do, someone will reach it first and someone will have the edge on capturing it and whoever captures it wins the game. This is basically true whenever you have a property exactly halfway between enemy bases. A simpler example would be to allow each player to capture a second base because then the only "new" FTA issue to address is the fact that each player starts with one base. In essence, reduce the number of variables that you have to account for. |

I don't think the infantry FTA counter is meant to counter a high funds megatank spam. That infantry would be all like, Hi, I'm the FTA counter, and OS would be like, Hi meatshield, I'm the megatank that I got fielded before you got one because FTA, BOOM OHKO. |

I just want to know who will capture that base first. That base is an important property. Capture the center city doesn't mean that you win the battle, but capture that base & you can deploy units on it. This map is something like: you capture that base, and 90% you can win this battle. |

Your last statement is correct, but finding out "who captures it first" doesn't actually tell you how effective your FTA counter idea is because of the fundamental fact that somebody will capture it first. If somebody captures it, it means its unfair for the opponent and the counter should be adjusted and if the opponent captures it first, then the reverse is true. No matter what you do you'll find "somebody got there first and I need to adjust the FTA counter in favor of the other player" and by definition there is no solution to that problem since they cannot share the base and because the base provides such a substantial advantage. |
