So this map was inspired by boredom really. I'm not really sure how it would play out, but I wanted to make a 4 player map since I've only ever made 1v1 maps in the past. Not sure how it would play out in teams, maybe GE + OS vs YC + BM. Requires some testing to decide co bans I think. Let me know what ya think and what you think I could improve. I tried to make it not too chokey. |

That doesn't look like a centrifuge at all! ...kidding. It IS very chokey, but idk how to fix it; I'd probably start by removing the notches from the center square. |

Xmo5 (07/11/2016 09:17am):
Not sure why you're kidding... I don't think it looks like a centrifuge either... :P Also, agreed on the chokiness, plus the enemies are in very close proximity; bases and airports can reach each other in one move which is dangerous. I think the best way to fix those changes is just to make it bigger... sorry that's not very helpful. |

Y'know.. I didn't even think about the airports when I placed em down. I just kinda put em down.. I think in the back corner near each HQ where the city is on the little island might be a better spot for the air ports. But also the map is relatively low funds so even in the event that you capture each of your cities, you're only making 11k per turn. With 2 people coming at you from either side idk how much of a stale mate it really could become on 11k per turn, but I'm thinking right now a copter could stop a choke point. In the center I think you're right Liandry. I think I wanna make those water notches into mountains. Also to be completely honest I don't even know what the word centrifugal means! It just popped into my head after I made the map so that's what I named it, it was the name of a Super Monkey Ball 2 stage. |

Centrifugal is a physics term, simply put to mean "characterized by or the result of going around in a circle"... at least as best as I can describe it. Centrifugal force is what you feel pushing you out when you spin in a circle, like at a carnival ride or when a car goes around a turn quickly. This is also why you can spin a bucket full of water over your head without losing a drop of water if you do it fast enough. Of course, physicists will argue about "centrifugal" vs "centripetal" forces, the latter being a force in the opposite direction and commonly regarded as more proper, but that's a long story for another day. Centrifuges are pieces of equipment that use this force to separate layers out of samples, by density for example. They spin things around really really fast and the dense stuff settles at the bottom, just like it normally would* under gravity, but much much faster. Imagine oil and water. It's basically like that except for more complicated things like DNA. Your washing machine is also (probably) a centrifuge. It spins around really fast and the water comes out of the clothes and moves through the little holes on the outside. Anyway, it's an appropriate name for the map, as it would be in virtually any Super Monkey Ball (2) stage *Sometimes things wont settle by themselves without the high energy involved from a centrifuge, and some things require additional steps beforehand. Science can be complicated. Back to the map, yes the islands would be better for the airports for sure. With respect to funding however, low funding usually has a greater chance to cause stalemates than higher funding on the same map. It might sound counterintuitive, but it'll make more sense when I explain it. The AWBW metagame (basically what everybody normally agrees to be a good overall strategy) dictates that you never leave a base empty. There may be rare exceptions, but for the most part, expect to buy something on every base, every turn. If you don't have a lot of money, most of what you can afford is infantry, and the more infantry you have, the more bogged down the battle gets. With more funding, you see more vehicles and air units which can help break things up a bit better and make a more definitive impact on your opponent's forces when you attack. Having your infantry duke it out while you accumulate more and more artillery and rockets behind them can be a long and tedious battle. |

I've read that centrifugal force doesn't really exist because it's just the reaction to the inward centripetal force, but then again such a force should have a right to its name lmao. fck semantics or whatever that's called. *reads the super monkey ball 2 part OHMYGOD I HATED THAT GAME I never seem to get the freaking rolling right. To hell with Centrifugal [the SMB2 one] in particular, it's like backing up with a car in that spiral road in a building in Tokyo Drift; it wrecked my R key. Don't get me started on the storymode: I can't even deliver a goddamn balloon to the goddamn foreman. EDIT: centripetal force is inward, I'm forgetting mah basic physics nuuuu |

Xmo5 (07/11/2016 03:45pm):
So the issue that comes into play is reference frames. Imagine you're holding a string with a ball on the end of it and you're spinning it in circles around your body. What forces are there? Well, as it turns out, you're actually pulling the ball towards you at any given point (centripetal force), but once the ball is moving, it's momentum keeps it moving perpendicular to your pull at any given point. This is how planetary (and lunar) orbits work: Gravity pulls the moon towards the Earth, but the moon is already moving sideways really fast so it tries to curve towards the Earth, but "misses" because it's going so fast. Now, nothing is technically applying a force to the moon or the ball to push it away from you, it just maintains distance due to the rotating force vector and it's momentum at any given time, but if you draw the problem from the reference frame of the moon or ball, there needs to be another "force" on the diagram to show that it doesn't get closer, despite the centripetal force acting on it. That's where centrifugal force comes in, any many physics teachers sort of make fun of it for being fake, while others take it more seriously. This is a bit simplified, but you get the idea Now that you know! Check this out: https://xkcd.com/123/ |

Wow I created a map and got a lesson on Centrifugal forces. That was definitely an intereting read, thanks for that. After the games on this map are done, I plan to move the air ports. I might expand the bck islands and put a city on them, idk if 12k would fix the stalemate problem, I doubt it. But also it's a free for all so anything could happen really. I think making it base light could fix the stalemate problem, but idk if that would make the map feel bland cause I like the feeling of one base for every front your fighting. |

Nyvelion (07/12/2016 08:22am):
If you start a game on this map with only 500 funds per city per turn, you could call the game name "Centrifrugal" |
|
liandry (07/12/2016 08:39am):
^then watch as people struggle to put units on bases for a while lol |
|
Xmo5 (07/12/2016 08:42am):
Bahahaha Base light would fix the stalemate problem a good bit. Taking out the neutral base could go a long way IMO, but remember to make each starting base of equal importance. If one is responsible for capturing fewer cities, make that one get the airport, etc. etc. The FTA counter will be most even that way. Also, I'm not sure many people fall into the category of "I can bore to death with explanations of centrifugal vs centripetal forces and they come back to tell me it was an interesting read.", so that's a plus. :) |
