Don't mind the map.

Suggestion: Sending new users a message about the site, how the games works, what's the league(which, doesn't
really matter now) and giving links to map-desgin guides.

It would be nice if such a thing were automated, so that new users would have a default
message in their inbox that gave them basic site navigation info, as well as things like
what you mention above.

However, I'm not sure we have the ability to do that without some intervention from above
and we don't really have a good way of determining which users have just registered on the
site, or even what language(s) they speak.

I doubt it needs to be a message.
There are no obvious 'Help' links on the left. There should be something like that that
looks like it should be picked first after logging in.
