Indeed. 1st, you need some first-turn-advantage counters so that both players can play this fairly. 2nd, the center's chocky, so it'll probably cause stalemates. And welcome to the site :) (I don't know how to counter the FTA, though. I don't even know if there's a guide for countering complex situations like with extra starting cities.) |

For extra starting cities, the FTA should be ~half of the funds being given at the first turn to BM. 2 cities out of OS's cities should be of BM's, and add OS infs on BM's cities. Gives 1.5 extra funds than OS just like a city for a 1 base map does. I'd also add more cities on the map itself, so that the map doesn't stalemate. |

It's like asking "What's the best way to get an alligator out of my house?". You can probably find half a dozen methods to solve the problem, but they probably won't go very smoothly or work as well as you hope, and they're all at least a little bit risky. The right answer is always "Don't let the alligator into your house and you won't have to figure out how to get him to leave." The best way to counter FTA when there are extra starting cities is to not have extra starting cities. |
