Hehehey it's your favorite map spammer with another exciting way to show how much time we as a community can collectively waste. I figured I would take a creative break from the old text adventures and interrupt it with a new, cooler and stupider text adventure. This is a text based battle for the world where each applicant makes their own little civilization to duke it out in a battle royale with the others in an epic fight that spans the entirety of the Mercator projection. Q: But, BamboozleXVIXIVCIIVIXI, how can we do this? A: It's actually easy af mate. Each player chooses a quad on the world map (the little sectioned portions are quads). You can choose this anywhere, I really don't care, even next to other players if you want to be a complete asshole! Give a short backstory of your civilization -- again, I really don't care, this can be anything you want it to be, just go with it. Then choose a color, preferably one that hasn't been taken by someone else unless you want a random color. And that's the signup shebang. Here's the simplified version for all my visual learners out there: Name of civilization: Color of civilization: Starting location: (either describe it, or upload the map detailing it) Edit: and of course my dumb ass forgets to post the map. Here yall go. http://i.imgur.com/BX6gzcp.png (note: map is obviously subject to change as I rearrange territories and all that) The game itself will probably be improvised as it goes, but it will revolve around expanding your civilization, making war with your peers, conquering sick new places and generally being a badass. You can only expand if you have either a) soldiers or b) settlers, and from there it's just literally saying where to expand into an adjacent territory. For example, "expand south", "expand north", "expand into Wisconsin," "expand my bowels", etc. There'll also be technologies and all that shit so it's more obvious I'm ripping off a Sid Meier game, so stay tuned! For now just apply frendos. See you on the globe. |

Civilization: Ferozanto Color: Amber Starting Location: https://s10.postimg.org/lr3ua2o21/Civilization_Quad.png Long has the civilization of Ferozanto stood as a gatekeeper to the Mediterranean Sea, helping keep pirates and marauders at bay and acting as a defender of justice and safe passage for all. Or, at least all who they get along with. While they make for a strong and loyal ally, there is a warrior nature, almost primal, embedded deep within their culture which drives them to fight relentlessly when they believe their cause to be just. The very name of their civilization derives from the Spanish words for "fierce" and "holy", mirroring their cultural dynamic. Will they be a valuable ally, or will they find themselves on a righteous warpath to victory? Only time will tell... |

Civilization: Mechavania Color: Yellow (Since Xmo5 stole the perfect color) (Why on earth are there so many bleeping regions) Starting Location: A random location in northern, coastal Egypt :P The mechanicalized (not a word) land of Mechavania (I ran out of words) is the home of many inventors and scientists. Long after the burning of the Great Library, the mechanics of Egypt developed their own unique kind of world, mixed with steam engines and the art of alchemy. This is Mechavania, the scientific capital of magic and machines. I might scratch that just because it seems boring :P By the way, it would be lovely if the images can be uploaded into a more common(Less likely to be blocked) site. |

Name of civilization: The Separate States of FIRAH Color of civilization: Red Starting location: Somewhere in asia [China?] with the lake thing- http://imgur.com/a/ssKsT Once united, the SSoF are currently in political warfare. Currently, technological progress allows for extremely cheap electric heating by efficently spreading out resources and making new power source. Hey, its even used in weaponry today. But this comes with a cost - lots and lots of fire and the ecosystem isn't exactly in it's best shape in areas of production. From new policies in certain regions restricting the spread of this tech in the south or with scienticfic pursuits for more uses, our land is at disrest. Citizens are proud of either way - polarized on location. Expansion, they concluded was the correct answer to preserve their land, but there was only one way to do it... |

Name of Civilization: Vargvikonia Color of Civilization: Black Starting Location: Southwest Nowray The Vargvikonians are a simple people with a desire to return to old customs in callous modern age. Clinging to their Nordic heritage, they are keen in hand-to-hand combat and will fight to the end of any battle no matter how dire. Vargvikonia is united by harsh, primal music that inspires warfare and arson. Though the culture is content in keeping Scandinavia pure, they have already begun to claim France as their own. The primary driving force of this nation's aggresson is its quest to dismantle the worlds major religions. One should note the Vargvikonians are incredibly ethnocentric and utterly intolerant to other cultures integrating within their own. |

All Civilizations: It is the start of the New Era! 0 NE, to be precise. A time for new opportunities and new hopes... right? It's the first year of leading your civilization, and your people grow restless. There are lands to conquer, technologies to obtain and gold to plunder. This wouldn't be a stereotypical strategy game without those, anyways. Some things to know: - SOLDIERS: Your military is an important part of your state, for obvious reasons. You'll need soldiers to put down rebellions, to repel raiders and bandits, to invade and garrison new territories, and to threaten other rival states that stand in your way. Right now you have access to the Militia, the most basic soldier out there, but getting new technologies may allow you to get new types of soldiers. Speaking of technologies, - TECHNOLOGIES: I actually changed my mind, this isn't a tech tree type of game since that's no fun. Technologies in real life were made in response to pressures and stuff, and so it shall be here. If you notice a particular part of your civilization that needs some help, simply point it out and say "research on improving X", or "research to reduce the problem of Y," etc. HOWEVER, you can only respond to one thing at a time, so one technology per turn max, even assuming you finish it in one turn. - GOVERNMENTS: You, the players, act as kings. Kings are technically immortal but can be killed in coups, warfare or by plagues or other stuff. Of course, then your successor, "Yourname II," will follow; and then "Yourname III," "Yourname IV", and all that. But the death of a king can cause some instability and weakness which others can capitalize on. - SOCIETY: If parts of your empire just ain't happy, they can rebel. As in, demand to focus technology research on something else vital to them; or demand their own separate state; or fight for their own separate state; or flip to an enemy civilization; or other, dumber things. What you do here is essentially like the rest of the game, more dependent on responding and playing the role you're in rather than math and numbers. So just be creative and alert and numbers don't really matter, is how this game goes. You'll see as the game progresses. - EXPANSION: Every turn you can expand. If you want. Just say to expand onto a particular quad, or in a particular direction, or otherwise some way of describing where to expand, and it shall be done. Hopefully. Now with all that said, here ya go. CURRENT WORLD MAP: http://i.imgur.com/1AgCbqO.png PLAYERS: Xmo's THE KINGDOM OF FEROZANTO You control 1 territory quad. (Society) Your people are eager to expand. Dear Infidels, here is a message from The Eurasian Aztec Theocracy. Name: The Eurasian Aztec Theocracy Color: Dark purple Location: North of Bangladesh History: Long age, the Aztecs were fooled by the Spanish invaders, with their more advanced weaponry. The Spanish came from the west, and conquered the Aztecs land. The most fanatic among them fought on, but eventually they had to retreat and abandon their former lands. They left to the east Sailing across the northern coast of the Pacific, pillaging on the way. After a long journey of bloodshed, they landed in Bangladesh, where they travelled north to settle down in the jungle/mountains to rebuild their Empire. Yet in the new era, the Eurasian Aztec Theocracy is ready for conquest, with the fiercest warriors and they are only led by those who have sacrified the most blood of their enemies. These leaders take the title of ''Divine Gereral of the Theocracy'' and make often war, in order to be able to sacrifice more blood to their gods and defend their claims to their divine title. Will the Earasian Aztec Theocracy be able to revenge on the Spanish and subdue them in name of their gods? |

Are we only allowed to expand into adjacent quads? Also, I really don't have a good idea of what options exist for a normal turn... what can I do, what can I spend gold on, etc., so I'll make my first turn pretty basic and then follow everyone else's lead. (Spoiler alert, I never played any of the Civ games, so I suspect other people will have a much better idea of what's normal than I would.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hear ye, hear ye. The great and honorable King of Ferozanto wishes it to be known that he shall henceforth be referenced only by his most elegant full name of Xmo5, for he is not the 5th in the line of Xmos. Rather, the first in his line, he was gifted this fittingly righteous name of Xmo5 as a single unit, being such that dissection of his name into its constituents for the purposes of any incomplete or inaccurate combination thereof would be to lose its sanctity and show disrespect to such a wise and just leader. It follows, as such, that his notably less honorable and righteous successor shall not be known by Xmo6, but as "Xmo5 II, Most Honorable and Righteous in All the Lands, Save His Predecessor of Whom There Can Be No Equal". Ahem. Now that our town crier got that out of his system (silly little chap, ain't he?), let's get down to business. I choose to expand into the quad to the west, such that my civilization controls the whole north side of the Straight of Gibraltar with both Atlantic and Mediterranean ports. Speaking of which, I choose to take advantage of this and direct technological advances towards seafaring and fishing. If it's a thing, I spend some gold (20?) on training and strengthening my current militia in the direction of a more capable, well-equipped, and disciplined army. If not, um... I dunno... make me do something reasonable and basic with that gold? Maybe on public works that don't require technology/research? (Library/education? Providing more readily accessible tools? Stimulating the economy/trade? I dunno) Assuming I can choose to spend gold like this. :P .... Uh oh.. King Xmo5 of Ferozanto just got a bad feeling (a premonition?) that some atrocities from an alternate timeline spawned some sort of demonic warrior people that are coming after him with a vengeance. Oh god, so much blood... so much blood... ... Nah, couldn't be. Just a bad dream after eating some questionable vegetation, for sure. Note to Kingly Self: Stay away from those plants from now on... Oy. |

I'm going to shuffle it up a little bit to make it less cluttered to play, and hopeless less confusing in the long run, to make it more into a text adventure than a numbers cruncher. New thangs: SEAFARING - assuming you've taken the initiative to study shipbuilding, and you live in a coastal area, you may build Ships. They allow you to transport stuff through the water, including settlers with which you may expand to non-adjacent coastal points on the map. CAVALRY - a new type of military unit. See the military unit chart for more info. GOLD - currently gold is only used for military units and some other stuff. This will change later as I think of more stuff to add.. QUAD PRODUCTION - each quad gives you a point of Production. Production is then used in making stuff (such as military units, along with gold). Production points cannot be stacked up; if you have two quads and don't use your points, you won't have four points next turn, but two. TECH BONUSES - as you might find out, discovering technologies may give you immediate bonuses, or bonuses over time, in addition to the new things allowed by the tech. Also, no numerals in king names, although this can be bypassed through less than aesthetically pleasing means. :) YEAR 1 OF THE NEW ERA CURRENT WORLD MAP: http://i.imgur.com/cZQVgVo.png PLAYERS: Xmofive's THE KINGDOM OF FEROZANTO You expand west, encountering no resistance. (Technology) You order the study of transport via the seas. In due time you have uncovered the secrets of Shipbuilding. You may now settle quads through the sea if you build a Ship. (Rule) King Xmofive rules the land. You control 2 territory quads, giving you two Production points. (Society) Your people are eager to expand. (Society) Foraging will not sustain you for long. You'll need to find a sustainable source of food soon. (Military) Your soldiers are restless and eager for battle. (Military) You have a small warband of 1000 Militia. (Financial) Your economy and trade are strengthened through expansion into unsettled territory! You gain 50 gold. (Financial) You have a meager amount of gold in your coffers. You also manage to cover additional lands in your haste to expand. (Technology) You recall the secrets of Religion. (Society) You have founded a Religion. What is your religion called, and what's it about? (Essentially I gave you a free tech and a free quad so that you weren't too far behind) (Rule) King Deadlyshadow rules the land. Well, let's take it to the seven seas. - Expand east - Research in Farming. - Produce one galley, assuming that it can't be used right away |

The military chart is where the current civ status is, at the 2nd post bam made. - Research in farming for sustainable food. - Expand East from the new terrirtory. - Get a squad of 100 Calvary. [Also I think I can seafare in the lake but I have no stable food yet] P.S, didn't I get 100 free raid calves? It isn't updated in the top post. |

Oh, how far can a ship expand from it's original point? As in, can I expand from east asia to the Americas with shipmaking/what's the limit to that? |
Jackie Milton (03/19/2017 02:36pm):
"If everyone [gets 50 gold] nobody does!" Expand to two territories adjacent to ones I already own. Build a seafaring vessel, and (or?) expand my militia with production/gold I spy some creatures wriggling within the sea; I would like to move them to the bellies of my people. In addition, I send a small diplomatic envoy accompanied by 40 soldiers to seek local civilizations. |
Tmi489 (03/19/2017 03:35pm):
^ We can use the gold in different ways. Also you can't build a seafaring vessel until you research shipbuilding first. |
Bamboozle (03/19/2017 03:42pm | Edited: 03/19/2017 03:44pm):
Galleys are only good for, let's say, up to 1000 miles of the quad you send them from (1000 miles = basically the width of the Mediterranean sea). Also consider that expanding into a quad an extreme distance away might not be the best choice. You won't have much centralized control or communication if you settle very far away, for example, like from Japan to California. There's a chance that quad may become its own independent civilization if you're unable to directly control it. The longer the voyage has to go, there's a chance a storm or starvation or enemies can destroy it, etc. This is assuming you don't keep expanding into places adjacent to that faraway quad, which will help centralize power. |

Expand to the north of St. Petersburg Obviously in a place like St. Petersburg, it is a joke to start farming without techs like greenhouses. So we have to domesticate those animals for a better food resource before we turn to fishing or better hunting. EDIT: To state it clear, the 4th International chose to research how to domestic those animals. Train 1 group of militia with 50 gold. Use 100 gold to set up a centre of philosophy for possible future wars against the religions. By finding out the flaws of different religions more people will join us in the course of atheism. |
Xmo5 (03/20/2017 04:32pm):
Hear ye, hear ye. Another great and eloquent message arrives from the courts of King Xmo5 of Ferozanto. The wise and honorable King wishes to amend his previous announcement concerning the importance of his name by clarifying further that it is not only that his name is of a single, holy unit, signifying the first of his line of Xmo5's, but even more so that the final character of his blessed name, that being "5", is not to be confused with a similarly styled numeral. Whilst many languages utilize the character "5" as said numeral, being the 5th in the natural order, and in spite the the Latin lettering used by the dialects of Ferozanto as well as its continued use of this numeral "5", the character "5" carries significance as a unique letter to our written language, holding a key feature of our culture and history, and is pronounced and written in the same likeness as the common numeral 5, but is no such common thing. Prominent, unique, and crucial to our society as the King himself, this letter "5" is held in a place of reverence by all who know its meaning. Such as it is, he the greatest of kings, King Xmo5, uses not a numeral in his name, and it is from this logic that commonfolk may misinterpret him to be merely the 5th in the line of Xmo's. Hereby it is declared that this is the purpose of the King's former message and he wishes to continue to be referred to as King Xmo5 for all purposes just and true as they have been conveyed. Ahem... man, that guy just keeps goin', doesn't he? Alright, so first I'm producing a galley and sending my settler and half of my militia (or whatever fits) across the Straight of Gibraltar to settle eastern of the two quads immediately across from my current quads. If I can (or if this is a thing), I'd like to use my second production point to make a large fishing vessel. If not, I use it to bolster my current military. I choose to research agriculture. |

You actually can build a ship and embark on it in the same turn, but that doesn't give you two expansion opportunities per turn, it just means you can expand with that ship. Soldiers themselves cannot settle unsettled land, only attack enemy settled land, in which case it would be like two expansions a turn if you settled unsettled land and occupied enemy land. Note: You need Seafaring for a Galley, and Fishing for a Fishing Boat. Note2: Well-detailed explanations may actually cause some shifts in the cultural naming customs of your empire. Note3: Adding random events, where there's Note4: Yes, the game is played through these comments; it's a text game, unless we somehow figured out how to reenact this using AWBW. Which would be insane. YEAR 2 OF THE NEW ERA CURRENT WORLD MAP: http://i.imgur.com/ObD0R10.png PLAYERS: Xmo5's THE KINGDOM OF FEROZANTO You successfully commission a Galley using all two of your Production Points and 50g. You expand south with your Galley onto a quad. (Technology) You focus on the secrets of harvesting crops from the earth. This is revolutionary for your people; as a result, you're able to move from nomadic life to a settled life. This, in turn, creates a demand for land to settle. For your next turn, you may settle two extra quads in addition to your one quad expansion (three quads total expansion). (Rule) King Xmo5 rules the land. You control 3 territory quads, giving you 3 Production points. (Society) Your people are eager to expand. (Society) Harvests seem to be good this year. Everything is in order. - Follow this path to expand: From the new terrirory, go middle west, west, then make it so that I'm connected to the sea. - Trust that man and pay him. (if possible make him do it then pay) - Research in explosives for battle and mining, more so the latter. - Not enough gold to train more army. EDIT: How about: if we had a battle with our army here in AWBW! Let's say I get attacked - then I'd have to fight the attacker to see if I'm successful, with predeployed infantry for 100 militia and such, I would not want to do that since I'm trash but oh well... |

I thought it was obvious that our religion was the Aztec Religion(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztec_religion). As the first Divine General of the theocracy, I must prevent the religion. Since our religion demands sacrifices, it would be a suitable solution to capture these heretics and offer(sacrifice) them to the gods. I would like to celebrate this noble decision to sacrifice and spend 30 gold to strengthen our religion by creating a religious festival around these sacrifices(If possible). That is the way I deal with prophets and heretics. No one can escape the power of our almighty god. After these sacrifices, I think expect our gods blessing for more food, So I would like to successfully get some technology for some dependable food. I would like to expand from my most northeastern area further to the north-east and from my most western area to the north west. By the way, I guess not only the size of your army is important, but also its position. |

I choose to research better buildings, which include permanent ones made of stone and temporary ones made of ice. If my people fail due to the lack of tools, I expect to have the technology 'basic tools'. (By having better buildings and the usage of fire, comrades in 4th International will be protected against the blizard when they are indoor. The livestocks are protected as well.) Try to establish food trade with merchants. Establish the grain trade with 20 gold and 5 gold of my income, which shall grant me enough food and food stock for a few years. In a freezing and dry place like St. Petersburg I guess food does not get rotten easily, right? Expand to the north so that I can have access to the white sea. Expand to the east so that I can control the northern part of that big lake(Lake Ladoga?). If the research works, expand the size of domestication at the cost of 30 gold. If not, use that 30 gold to encourage hunting instead. The people in 4th International may perform better in hunting and possible combats that way. |

(Society) You correct your priests and people on the actual meaning of the religion. It isn't Silentism, it's Teotl, a religion from the land before this one; they accept it without much fuss. (Rule) King Deadlyshadow rules the land. You control 3 territory quads, giving you 3 Production points. (Society) Your people are eager to expand. (Society) Harvests seem to be good this year. Everything is in order. (Military) Your soldiers are restless and eager for battle. (Military) You have a small warband of 1100 Militia. (Financial) You have a meager amount of gold in your coffers. You have 170g + 10 per turn. (Technology?) Sticks and stones can't make proper houses! You wonder how to properly house your people in this environment. (Technology?) This land is interesting. Perhaps studying the plants, earth and waters may be of interest. !!! EVENT !!! The group of heretics, aggravated by your change to the religion, demand even more representation. You answer this by ritually slaughtering many of them, causing many to flee in fear. The ones who aren't scared regroup and, according to rumors, are attempting to establish their own state nearby without fear of religious prosecution. You feel like you could do something about this -- namely, sending in soldiers to crush the survivors. Or you could let them live -- who knows, maybe they'll be of use... |

Boi. - Research in philosophy, another little scientific development in attempt to strenthen the kindom's general knowledge and beliefs. (While also encouraging people of different religions to understand/accept each other, even though it's probably unlikely based on what just happened.) - Expand east along the coast. - Establish trade route between the kingdom and the southern tribe, and send a couple spies to see the status of the tribe. Also letting them know that my kingdom respects their religion. - Produce one galley. - Send 2 groups of scouts with 50 militia each, one to the east of Egypt, one sails to the Turkey region to search for villiages/city-states/stuffs. If they found any foreign settlement, tell its citizens and ruler, if any, that my kindom seeks peace and ask for a trade relation. |

- Research in... researching faster. - oh I thought you said that you could improvise things to make it less complex - Expand: http://imgur.com/a/UmFHo (EDITED IT) - Establish a trade route with the Eurasian Aztec Theocracy by sending 50 militia and a diplomat south from my original land to secure the route. I am very bad at my directions even with the W-E trick. What would NOT be a small warband anymore? |

-I would lie to expand as in https://ibb.co/jHQrWQ. - Now that we have a farms, it is time to build proper houses for the people. - I will call for a holy war against the heretics. I will spend 100 gold on training an army and I will send 80% of (the total of) my new army on a mission to defeat the heretics. The rest of the army should defend the current territory and and keep order there. -If foreign diplomats arrive, we will be allow them to develop a trade relation. |

I devote resources to reaching out to the villagers with an envoy. I offer to join forces with them and show them the things our civilization has achieved that they could benefit from if they would like to join (agriculture and fishing) and stress that we we would be able to achieve more together. I also keep things amicable and diplomatic should they decline; if they don't willingly join my Kingdom, I'm interested in having a cooperative trade relationship with them, not conquering them. I research written language in order to improve communication, particularly with the new people to the East, regardless as to whether they become part of my Kingdom or just trading partners. I expand East along the coast of Spain. I spend my production points on more fishing boats to ensure I have an abundance of food, especially if I will be helping feed or trading with these villagers to the East. |

Expand as such https://ibb.co/eM7pJ5 I would-a like to build-a the ships. (I want to research shipbuilding). I would like to send a small envoy of 50 soldiers to bring some tradable goods to the newfound land. |

Research for warm clothes with the material we got from livestock and hunting. Expand 1 quads into northeast for access to north gulf of Bothnia. Expand 2 quads to completely surround the big lake(Lake Ladoga?). Train milita with 100 gold. Form a diplomatic group which includes 100 milita and send them to the south for friendly civilizations. Use 50 gold to encourage the settlement of scholars passing by. |

Don't worry. The waiting will be over when our hairs turn white and our bones fall to dust. Not literally cuz some people do dye their hair. |

Anyone volunteering for a zombie-apocalypse-venture with a boot time of 1 year while we wait for this year to be over? |

Xmo5 (05/02/2017 11:45am):
If you constantly dye your hair your entire life, does your hair turn white? Clearly there will be a point at which the hair changes, even if the changes are not visible due to regular hair dyeing, but does that mean it's "turned white" or not? I guess I'd really have to know how the dye (or pigment?) interacts with the hair on a microscopic or even chemical level. I imagine it's heterogeneous to some extent, but does it all deposit on the surface? Is it integrated throughout? On a microscopic level, can you tell that the hair has changed color, even with the dye? Can we discern other changes in the hair, such as texture or thickness that accompany the color change? Will we ever find out how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?!? |
