GE does not have an HQ I guess? |
|
Jackie Milton (05/09/2017 10:59am):
I reckon Funding is excessive. Plus this is totally a ripoff of Mt. Depression. Jus' Sayin' -J.C.M. (The "C" stands for "never has to do Calculus ever again (but probably not)") |

Xmo5 (05/09/2017 03:56pm):
Yeah, except Mt. Depression was much more... depressing... in a good way. |

http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=66344 A mountain so depressingly massive, it has it's own atmosphere. |
|
Jackie Milton (05/11/2017 12:53pm):
It's a geographic feature that you climb and and climb forever, but the higher you are, the more you sink into the madness that is your own skull. Yet you keep climbing because there's nowhere else to go; slipping only begets more suffering. There is no profound wisdom at the summit, only the wisdom that your life has no value... It's also the name of a black metal band. It's also the name of my second map. |

Sorry for copying your OG idea, Jackie, i didn't copy it on purpose. |
|
Xmo5 (05/12/2017 10:13am):
I'll speak for Jackie here since I'm sure he agrees: No worries, it's not actually a big deal. You wouldn't have had any way of knowing that someone else had a map with a similar theme, especially as a newer user who hasn't seen many of the (nearly) 71,000 AWBW maps. Think of AWBW map design like music- musicians and bands constantly pull influence from other music. Sometimes it's obvious, and sometimes it's not, but ultimately, unless you're blatantly copying someone else's work and calling it your own, it's still a unique work of art; a specific flavor on a broad spectrum of taste combinations. There are also AWBW equivalents of "cover songs", where someone might literally copy someone else's map, make a few (sometimes minor) changes they think would improve it, and credit the original map designer in the comments, explaining why they made the adjustment(s). The moral of the story is that we're pretty easy going around here (well, most of us) and we're not going to take legitimate offense if a map comes out looking like one of the other 70,999 that we happened to have designed personally because, guess what? While you may have big innovators when it comes to both music and AWBW maps, in both cases, most new works are built on the inspiration from and experiences with the previous generation's material, so odds are that the map/song you drew inspiration from was originally based on map/song 64,223 which was based on 60,504, which was... etc., etc. Don't be afraid to follow in that tradition and draw influence from all sorts of different sources to figure out what "sounds good" and what doesn't, and what your unique "sound" will be. Anyway, most of the time we're really just joking around, so don't take us too seriously. We don't bite, I promise. :) Alright, Jackie, that's enough for now... you always talk too much. Back to me- One thing I'd like to add to the words I just put in Jackie's mouth (keyboard?) is that don't let this stop you from making more maps. If you enjoy it, keep going! If you want to keep improving, keep listening to the advice that people leave (when we're not too busy goofing off), and use it to improve your current map, but also your next design. It will be a gradual process and it might not seem like you're getting anywhere sometimes, but trust me, that's what it feels like for everyone. I've been around the since late 2008 and it took me a long time to get to this point. The best part is that I'm still learning and, personally, I feel like I have a long way to go. That's not meant to be discouraging, but rather to serve as a reminder that we're all in the same boat and we've all had to start from the bottom (with rare exception), so don't feel like you should give up because your maps "aren't good enough". All the more reason to keep going; you'll learn faster the more mistakes you make :P Alright, that's all for now, but you can feel free to send me a PM anytime if you have questions or want some map feedback, so don't hesitate to ask. Happy Mapping! |

That was *Sniff* inspiring :') Thanks, cap... I'll try harder... And maybe, i'll make a decent map. Someday, Someday... |

Jackie Milton (05/14/2017 01:05am):
No fuck you. Take after me and only make shitty maps based solely on jokes that only you yourself find funny. Or sad as it may happen... |

Xmo5 (07/18/2017 11:41am):
Hey, on a second readthrough, I'm pretty impressed by the words I put in your mouth, Jackie. Nice job! *pats back* Ah, no biggie Xmo5, you're the real genius here. An AWBW musical pioneer, as it were. Coming from someone with more musical talent and experience, I'll take that as a compliment. You're too kind. Not at all, good sir, it is you who are too kind. Oh, stop it. Honestly, though. If you think about- No, actually stop it. This hypothetical conversation is getting out of hand. This isn't in our head anymore and people are listening. Great. Now everyone's going to think that you think I think you're awesome. Thanks for that... |
