This is a remodel of Volcove's map, Illumination: http://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=38320 The original map had a cool concept, but had several problems that led to a high propensity for stalemates and generally subpar gameplay. This version has (I think) fixed most of those flaws while preserving the original concept. Some notable changes include: - Repositioning of the starting bases to mitigate FTA concerns with uneven fronts and allow for longer distances from the fronts to the bases. - Switching the sub to be on unfriendly terrain, so that it eventually runs out of fuel and is extinguished. - Widening of the center of the map and reduction of forests, to help prevent stalemates. - Rework of much of the terrain between the bases and the fronts, to allow for more likelihood of skirmishes on the sides of the map, and to force players to make tough decisions about deployment routes. |

After checking the original I have a feeling that the sub should always remain there to act as a light...... Anyway the change in the position of the lab is really good. Still in the current position a stalemate seemed to be possible as well... |

Word of warning: if you play as Sturm, Von Bolt or Rachel, the enemy submarine WILL attract your CO Power and completely waste it. Hold your power until you destroy the sub, or don't play as them. Alternatively, please ban those COs as a default setting of this map, as it is basically a new player trap. |

If you're new to this map, there's a cheese on the fog version where if your opponent is playing as sami, they can hide their mech/infantry in the forests within 4/5 squares of the lab and wait for their Super power. Against sami regardless of "hehe vision gimmick is funny" you have to prioritize destroying the sub so that you can properly defend your lab. if you don't clear the sub they have vision to clear your defenses for the ambush from the forests. There are other maps that warn about this kind of cheese where you have to put a unit on your hq/lab to defend against sami cheese. This one you cant do that because the sub is owned by them, and they can use the delete unit command to clear the way whenever they so choose. |
