Trying my hand at a 'Sprite' map. Like probably every AW player ever I've toyed around with the idea of creating COs in my head, but none of them were based off myself. Over the years I've forgotten all of them, besides this one. A jolly old big guy I gave the name 'Aldorf', who excels at steady, 'slow but sure' strategies. The original AW games never had a CO who focussed exclusively on defence - aside from AW's Sturm outside of the campaign, but that could hardly be called canon - which is why I love the fact that Sturm on this site fits that role, but I dislike the decreased offensive power. That's probably why I never forgot my idea(s) of this guy; that he'd give all his units a defence boost, but not sacrifice firepower to do so, but movement speed instead. Like with most - if not all - AW COs this was caused by his personality; laid-back but reliable, kinda like a slightly less lazy Grit, though physically looking more like a cross between Olaf and Grimm, although the latter didn't exist at the time I envisioned Aldorf. Speaking of how I imagined him looking, to create this sprite I used Watson from Pokemon RSE as a reference for the expression and most of the beard. Aldorf's beard is meant to form kinda-spikes, but here it rather looks scruffy, but that sort of suits his personality. The other thing I'd always thought about which in my mind I gave this guy following playing AW2 was that a CO could have two very different powers; their COP and SCOP being quite different in how they operated. The closest we got in real AW was Kindle, but she was the standard 3 stars to COP and another 3 to SCOP; I was thinking just a one star difference between the two, giving a lot of flexibility to one's strategic approach, given that the two powers would be quite different. To show what I mean I'll type up his bio all AWBW style...despite the fact that probably no-one will care, unless to criticise! ^^; XD |

Aldorf. Units gain +25% defence, but their movement is reduced to 65% (rounded up) of the norm. ! "Slow and Steady"-- Passive defence bonus is doubled for all units. !!!"Wins the Race" -- Passive defence bonus is sacrificed for all units to double their movement. ----* (Four stars to COP, One additional star to SCOP) Since joining this site I've had a couple of other ideas for different COs, including more recently how I think a CO based off myself would work, but I don't think I'll do sprites for them, so, in the unlikely event anyone would like to know about them, I'll post them here if for any reason someone asks me to! 65% movement is a bit too hard and me personally would have +20% defense / -1 move for 4+ movement (non infantry) Also is movement speed doubled based on D2D or natural move? It would def fit within AW main games but not really in AWBW |

Yeah, originally it was something like +40% defence for -1 movement for all units but that was waaay back in the day before I was aware that AW's 'defence' works more like damage reduction, so I didn't realise how broken it was back then. These days it's more like Drake's naval units' defence bonus in exchange for movement of all units to be reduced by about a third, then rounded up. I forgot two things when commenting it up earlier; it's a bit less than 65% cos Aldorf's recons are meant to be on 5 movement, and his transport units are meant to be -1 movement speed rather than the percentage value, given that otherwise they'd be useless combined with his infantry units being as slow as his mech units on 2 movement. In relation to his SCOP it doubles the movement his units have after his D2D speed penalty being applied, so Mechs and Inf at 4, Tanks at 8, Recons at 10, etc. :-) |
