Enjoying the map. Seems to throw you right into battle on two fronts very quickly. I often target goodies behind pipe seams, but felt unable/uncomfortable utilizing the time and resources to get this one. If the pipes extended out one more space into the center of the map, the sea and beach tile could be swapped and there would be one more way to get at the towers (tcoper). Though I’m still not sure if that option would be enough to entice me; the HQs are so close to factories it’s scary. XD |

Good map in fog of war, even if i thinl hk cap is easy, but the only problème for me is without fog of war the map is too small and the tank arrive in both side in one turn so it create a waiting game until a death ball. |
Tornikidou (11/16/2021 04:11pm):
Can someone explain to those so-called 'GL commitee' that one-front maps suck? We are here to have a good time, not to play stall and wall games. |
Lost and Found (11/17/2021 08:04am):
I've played and seen quite a few games here and I've never seen the map stall - in fact, it's probably one of the more aggressive maps in the pool. The 2b side's staggered development allows the 1b side to contest both corner and center at once early game, leading to them gaining free hits and attacking early on in the game - and with both ongoing center brawls and HQ threats being very frequent and strong, even freeing the tower can be a risky endeavour as it means being down a vehicle in active fights for the time being. |
Tornikidou (11/19/2021 01:09am):
I mean..you think the best map in the GL is a spam map with a rating of 3.71 (21), the joke tells itself. |
Lost and Found (11/19/2021 01:58am):
I don't see how my opinion on whether a map is fun for me to play on changes anything about higher level games typically being dynamic due to the variety of threats the single base side offers compared to its numerical disadvantage. |
Tornikidou (11/19/2021 02:26am):
Oh we talkin about high level games now? Go and look at the last high level game played in this map, fast forward to the 10/11/12th day, watch it and then come back and tell me with a straight face that's what you expect from a funny and enjoyable battle. |
Lost and Found (11/19/2021 12:36pm):
I just looked at both the recently finished games where both players are 1200+ - Randomwayz vs Humblegod didn't reach day 11 as Humblegod resigned under the pressure of being unable to answer both the threat of a split army and their HQ side pressure, whereas sif vs MontySigurdson became a 2b side damage race that ended by day 15. Maybe we looked at different games, but I sincerely don't see stalling being common here. Not to mention that whether a game is enjoyable is an entirely subjective measure. By mine, the most enjoyable maps are ones that allow for the widest variety of strategies and gameplans, optimally starting right out of the gate in the capture phase. |
Tornikidou (11/19/2021 01:29pm):
Come on pal, stop cherrypicking games lmao, last game is right there in front of your face, Starflash230 vs Vicii Almere. But, who cares anyways, you're gonna look at those 10-infantry lines and gonna come back and write something like 'Yeah, that's what strategy looks like, look at that D17 section, that's what I like when H35 takes the action before risking F18 while threatening the A55 spot'. Wanna make this site even bigger? Just listen to the people, look at those map ratings and act accordingly puttin some fun maps on the GL pool (and there are MANY sweet maps). Wanna keep this a hardcore private party? Then you can keep puttin your personal preferences ahead of people opinions. |
Lost and Found (11/19/2021 02:25pm):
Actually, I'm coming back saying I don't quite understand why starflash didn't attack on the top side around day 11/12 while having unanswered vehicles including an AA against a bunch of infantry and a copter. That's a sidenote, though, since looking throzgh more games I do see a handful where both sides committed to defending 2b, which seems to result in rather stale boards overall. I do understand and appreciate the criticism alot more now, and your feedback is noted. Our rotations have been primarily based on feedback in the discord server, and this map in particular was chosen due to vast positive feedback after its use in a Discord Cup tournament. Given the difference in feedback, it seems as though the more defensive openings may not have been played much or at all. |
Tornikidou (11/19/2021 06:52pm):
You must understand vast majority of the people here are casuals (like me) who aren't on discord 24/7 and just want to compete in the GL to have a good time, and map selection is key. My rant isn't because of this map, but for the whole GL map pool, and make no mistake, there are nice maps in the pool, but there are various maps that just suck and you can see the ratings agreeing with what I'm saying. Same goes when I say 'your personal preferences', I'm not talking only about you but about that small amount of people who decide what goes in and what goes out. You just can't take only the hardcores feedback when they are the 5% of the users in this site. And if I'm wasting my time typing all this shit is because I like this site a lot, I watched how it grew since 2000s and It's just there are things that can be done better and I know those next months can attract a lot of potential users with that AW game release on the horizon. Oh yeah, and that bald youtuber is doing nice publicity too. I'm not english so I know for a fact this text is far from perfect, but there it goes. |
Tmi489 (11/21/2021 09:36pm | Edited: 10/04/2024 04:13pm):
I think the problems with 'listening to the people' are that 'the people' don't have well-organized opinions, that people with negative opinions are more likely to rate/comment, and that even the most disliked maps, like the aformentioned Last Vigil, have less than 30 ratings in a league of 900+ players. [Or have existed for 10 years] Casual players can make game-losing mistakes that shouldn't decide how good a map is. If both players handshake to early rocket, then the game is going to stall. There isn't much a map could possibly do in this regard. But if 95% of players *do* early rocket, despite counters existing and working effectively, then the players aren't going to like the map. Take this to mechs - if players don't build arty, don't abuse their 2-movement, or don't rush them to abuse their long reinforcement times, then mechspam is OP. Of course, mechs in LV are still good, but slow and brainless spam will be punished. However I get your point with at least one map - Shangri la. The map is just slow - many players are still going to have a miserable time (No, removing the map from the pool isn't a trival solution, as the map still has decent gameplay overall). (Though the map was rotated out anyway) In fact, I think catering to the pros is largely a good thing to do. If purely stalling out is the best possible strategy, despite most casual(ish) players quickly winning their games, then there is no 'rising above' the stall. |
Tmi489 (11/21/2021 09:36pm | Edited: 11/21/2021 09:55pm):
As an aside, I think AWBW's / the GL's asynchronous nature inheriently limits their popularity more than the map pool, in its current state, can possibly do. |
Witte711 (12/02/2021 06:39pm):
I am too lazy to read all these reviews but from my couple of times playing this map it is very hq rush oriented. I tried to play slow and reinforce from my hq side but it's way too exploitable. 2 bases plus the airport all naturally reinforce in the direction of the enemy hq. Idk why they're so far forward. Putting a black boat helps a little but I still don't like how it's basically the only contested property on the map that matters. Maybe I'm just salty but I'm not a fan of the map. |
mathblitz (01/04/2022 04:35pm):
I've only played one game on this map and I enjoyed the game, if I had constructed feedback it would be the following: The two base side should be the strong side of the map and the HQ should be there, however the forests near the middle base for both players greatly hamper reinforcement with tanks to that side of the map, weakening it. I think this map would play a lot better if a couple forests were removed from the faster path from middle base to HQ. Another cool idea might be to move the hq 1 square closer to their respective sides so that the blackboat so that players can decide to use the blackboat to accelerate infantry movement or guard their HQ. I don't know if one is strictly better than the other, but it'd add more strategic choices. Overall: 7/10, I feel like people are too harsh on the map but I've only played once :P |
Quickslow87 (01/16/2022 11:49am | Edited: 01/16/2022 12:33pm):
I agree that it becomes an HQ rush. I lost on day 12 against Kindle even though I was ahead and had the comm tower. I would also point out that a rocket can get in range of the BB, onto a property, in only 1 turn (which my Kindle didn't even need to use thanks to her power). |
Forgotten Infantry (04/18/2024 10:16am):
So far the above comments does seem to pan out as it is very aggression oriented that getting an artillery is likely going to break tempo and/or forever you to fight with one unit short with brawls breaking out frequently especially around the HQs. |
UWV (05/09/2024 10:52pm):
this map is ass so bad chingala puto |
Azarel (05/14/2024 03:59pm):
this map would be almost decent if there was a comtower on this map and T1 didn't exist |
JΩsh_Augur (05/17/2024 08:57am):
just one big infantry wall down the entire map on both sides until you hq rush, not a fan |
CommanderFox (06/18/2024 08:28pm | Edited: 06/18/2024 08:38pm):
I'm not on map committee but it would be useful for all accounts to have a copy and past button on maps so you can change maps with things you disagree with on the original map. If it exists make an update on it. so all have access on copying a map and placing it under their own maps for their changes on how the map should be on the person perspective or trying out. I'm not saying this is the only way to make it better but it is a faulty map. 2nd player fta is would be better off on the other base up top at (16,2) and swap the 2 neutral air ports with the 2 neutral ground bases on both side of the map so it is symmetrical. Switch the 2 HQ's so 2nd player HQ is on top and 1st player is on bottom. I would also open the pipe seams that are locked to be open. If you do these changes, the front changes weak side and strong side changes and the fta men actually does something with its tempo. The way as it is right now, 2nd neutral base is a slow base in general with not much reinforcement timing besides going north for a H.Q rush. If nothing changes, my tip is that there is also tactics of slowing down captures on map for 1st player which isn't there for 2nd player. |
Valior (06/23/2024 11:05pm | Edited: 06/23/2024 11:33pm):
replace the 16,08 tile with the 17,08 tile and it would be better i think, being able to get the comm tower with a t copter too seems like a good idea to me |
Rutherford Gaming (08/21/2024 12:25am | Edited: 08/21/2024 12:31am):
Why did this map return for another rotation? Nobody likes it; does the map committee not listen to everyone's complaints? |
dision (08/25/2024 09:46am):
The map committee is absolutely not listening to it's community, they keep on putting the worst maps in rotation. I don't get what this obsession is with using maps that have extremely frustrating terrain around bases and layouts, can we just get some normal maps that aren't painful to play, please? |
TheMapCommittee (09/17/2024 12:10pm):
We are sorry - we are doing a terrible job choosing maps. We understand we are completely failing the majority of our players. We need to do better. AWBW is a game designed for players of all abilities to have fun and enjoy themselves. We will try to do better in the future. |
