Could do with a few neutral bases sprinkled throughout the map since otherwise, it suffers
from the same reinforcement problems as Deer Harbor
(http://www.amarriner.com/awbw/prevmaps.php?maps_id=10&o_submit=View) - Basically, whoever
gets to the major airports first (in this case the center of the map) is going to win
simply because their reinforcements (air units) can be produced on the spot whereas the
opponent has to travel across half the map to get there, making it virtually impossible to
take a production facility.

No point using anyone other than Sensei or Sami because of the +1 T-copter movement that
lets them easily get to the middle. BTW, it looks like RF has a major advantage because
even without the movement bonus, they'll get to the middle first.

Add more bases please. 5/10 for the effort. (Sorry for the long comment)
(06/13/2005 08:04pm):
yes i see but doest that make it more competitive?
(06/13/2005 08:08pm):
Dullahan, i think that you are some what inncorect
(06/13/2005 08:21pm):
I changed my map. I saw where you were going with the airports in the middle, so I
changed them to bases and added ports, to emphasize sea travel instead of easy access from
the center by air.

I also added a couple of neutral bases closer to the faraway airports and ports on each
base. This way infantry will have an easier time getting to Landers and T Copters.

I hope this map was overall improved.
Dullahan (06/13/2005 11:14pm):
Well it's better... However, I think if you're going to put ports in the middle, you may
as well eliminate airports from the map entirely since air units > naval units in AW. As a
replacement (sort of) I would recommend making corner islands and equipping them with a
single airport each - perhaps also a base and port and a few cities if you decide so. That
way, the corners are still strategic, and the game isn't totally decided once one side
takes the middle. Also, since the airports would be far away from the action, the natural
advantage air units have over naval units would be more than negated by the distance,
making it more effective to use naval and land units in an invasion force when it comes to
the real fighting.

To CodyB: What do you mean by more competitive and which parts are incorrect? Please
elaborate. Also, if you'd like, I'll play an unofficial game against you on Deer Harbor
and you can see what I mean by the first comment. First person to take an isolated airport
(one away from bases - namely the SW one) pretty gets it for the entire game because enemy
reinforcements can't arrive faster than you can produce stuff from the airport. I can show
you a game I recently finished on it... http://www.amarriner.com/awbw/game.php?games_id=1743
(06/14/2005 07:04pm):
i mean it makes it so every one is more competitive about getting to the center instead of
building a strong force first, and i think you are inncorect about Sensei or Sami because
when you play you can just restrict them
(06/14/2005 08:47pm):
I simply turned the center into a place for cities rather than a place where you
*absolutely* need to go to win. Hopefully the focus won't be as much on the center of the
map as it was before.
Dullahan (06/14/2005 09:01pm):
Well, it's a moot point now that the center's been nullified. Pretty nice map although
it's too bad the corners are going to be neglected for sure. Looks like a long drawn out
battle on this map. (RF has an advantage in the long run due to the airport which is
really close to the center isle, but I suppose it balances out in the end)

To CodyB: It's kind of pointless when the first one to get to the important properties
wins for sure. As I've said before, the outcome of Deer Harbor can be decided within a
week if BM manages to capture both airports (the important one is the SW one since whoever
gets there first holds it for the entire game unless they make a stupid mistake - the NE
one can be attacked with BM's ground units so it's difficult for OS to hold). As the map
used to be, whoever got to the middle island first (used to be RF) pretty much won the
game since they'd be able to pump out units from those airports while the other side would
have to bring in air units from far away. Naval units obviously wouldn't be much help
while the sea restricts land units from assisting in a takeover. (Bombers and b-copters
will stop landers pretty effectively)
(06/14/2005 09:33pm):
I just rearranged the airports a bit. I hope they are more balanced.
Dullahan (07/29/2005 12:17am):
Now there's definitely a reason to use naval units :) This should be interesting.
