What is the AWBW Legends tournament series? [Back to Top]
The AWBW Legends tournament series is a new series of tournaments hosted directly on AWBW by Jay Embee. It replaces the now-defunct AWBW Open Cup (AOC) series, which ran from 2017 - 2019. It consists of four distinct Cups, each named after a member of AWBW's original developer and admin team, and each featuring a different game mode:

(1) Amarriner Cup: The premier tournament featuring Standard play.

(2) Smacky Cup: The premier tournament featuring Fog of War play.

(3) Glenstorm Cup: The premier tournament featuring High Funds play.

(4) Quack Cup: The premier tournament featuring a variety of unconventional types of play (e.g.: Tags).

The four Cups will rotate, with a new tournament being started approximately every 1-2 months.
How are the tournaments hosted? [Back to Top]
All Cups in the AWBW Legends series are hosted on AWBW using the built-in tournament interface, and can be found directly on the Tournaments page. All tournament information, registered players, tournament settings, and brackets can be viewed simply by clicking the name of the tournament from the list.
What is the tournament format? [Back to Top]
All Cups in the AWBW Legends series have the same basic tournament format:

- Participants are initially seeded by their maximum achieved Global League rating.
- Players are then separated into divisions of max. 256 players each, according to their seed (i.e., Div. 1 = seed #1 - 256, Div. 2 = seed #257 - 512, etc.).
- Within each division, players are grouped into brackets of max. 32 players each (for example, if there are 8 brackets, the top 8 seeds are each placed in a different bracket).
- All brackets are played using a single elimination format.
- The winners of each bracket then play in a separate Grand Finals bracket for the Division Championship, which can be round robin or single elimination format.

The winner of each Division has the tournament win displayed directly on their profile page, as well as on their tournament profile page. In addition, the winner of the Division 1 tournament will receive a customized trophy sprite accompanying the win on their profile pages, while the winner of each other division receives a medal sprite instead.

Note: The Division champions do not play against each other; each Division is treated as a separate tournament.
What are the timer settings? [Back to Top]
All Cups within the AWBW Legends tournament series are intended for asynchronous play (similar to Global League). However, in order to limit the overall duration of tournaments, the time controls are restricted to relatively quick settings. The exact values may vary depending on the event, but it should be expected that most tournaments use a timer increment of 1-2 days, with a max turn time between 3-5 days. This means that players are expected to take all turns on average once every 1-2 days, and cannot take more than 3-5 days for any given turn.

Despite the quicker asynchronous time settings, it is expected for tournaments to last on average approximately one month per round. Please keep this in mind, as it means a commitment of min. 6 months for players who advance deep into the tournament.

IMPORTANT! The Pause Timer function does not work for Tournament matches. In addition, it is possible to be booted while on vacation if the total clock runs out. Therefore it is important to manage time carefully!
How can I join a tournament? [Back to Top]
When a new tournament is open for registration, a icon will appear on the Competitions section of the menu. Any tournaments that are currently available for registration will also appear in the Waiting Tournaments section of the Tournaments page. Registration will typically be open for at least 1 week, or until the tournament is full.

To join the tournament, simply click on the Register button on the tournament main page. The Signups page also displays a current list of all registered players.

The following restrictions apply when joining a tournament:
- Minimum games. Players must complete at least 25 games to be eligible to register for a Cup.
- Minimum rating. There is NO minimum rating requirement; however, players will be grouped into divisions based on rating.
- Concurrent tournaments. Players may not concurrently be in more than 5 Cups at the same time.
Note: Once a player has been eliminated from a Cup, that Cup no longer counts towards the limit.
- One account per tournament. Joining a tournament with multiple accounts is NOT allowed (even if the accounts are in different divisions).
Note: Any player found breaking this rule will have all accounts banned from all tournaments.
How do I know when my tournament starts? [Back to Top]
All Cups in the AWBW Legends series are fully automated directly on AWBW. When a tournament starts, all games are automatically created on the site, and each player is added to their respective game. Like Global League games, any new tournament game appears directly on the Your Turn game page.

The game will start immediately once all players have readied. If one or both players do not ready, the game will start a max. of 2 days after both players have been added to the game.

After a game ends, the bracket is automatically updated and the winning player is added to their game for the next round. There is no need to report results to the tournament coordinator.
What happens if a game ends in a draw? [Back to Top]
If a tournament game ends in a draw, whether by player agreement or by reaching the in-game days limit, the player with the most captured properties (including labs and towers) is the winner. If that is tied, a winner will be selected at the discretion of the tournament organizer based on an evaluation of the game replay.
Do tournament games count towards my W/L record or rating? [Back to Top]
All tournament games are "unofficial", meaning they do not impact the W-L-D record displayed on player profile pages, and do not affect player ratings. However, a separate W-L-D record for only tournament games is displayed on each player's tournament profile page.
How are maps and CO bans selected? [Back to Top]
All games in a given round of the tournament are played on the same map, with each round featuring a different map. Like Global League matches, maps are selected by the tournament organizer with input from the Map Committee. There are not any strict rules for tournament map selection, but high standards are maintained for balance and gameplay. Note that tournaments may feature maps that are more experimental or unproven than Global League, especially in the Quack Cups.

CO bans are individually selected for each map, once again with input from the Map Committee.
